CAF WCL: Buffaloes in do-or-die match against Simba Queens

Green Buffaloes Women’s Football will be hoping to seal their slot in the semifinals  when they take on Simba Queens at the Grand Stade de Marrakech.

Buffaloes are coming off a 2-1 loss at the hands of AS FAR and will be looking to get back to winning ways.

The Zambia army sponsored outfit have an advantage over their Tanzanian counterparts as they only need a draw to confirm their passage to the knockout stage.

Head Coach Charles Haalubono says the team has prepared well for the match and are still on course to progress to the semifinals.

“We have prepared well and have psyched the players. We have worked on the mistakes we made in the last game,” he said.

“We are still targeting reaching the semifinals. We have worked on the defense covering each other and not commiting anyhow.”

“We are likely to make one change to the team. This is like a final for us because a win will give us motivation to even do more,” he added.

Simba Queens are competing in their first CAF Women’s Champions League. They  lost their opening game at the hands of hosts AS FAR and bounced back to win their second game against Determine Girls.

Victory for Simba Queens will see them become the second team after Malabo Kings to lose their opening game and progress to the knockout rounds, Kings lost their first game in 2021 against Hasaacas Ladies but a victory over Wadi Degla in their next game and a draw in their final game. Set up a Semi-final encounter for them against eventual champions Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies.

Progression to the next stage will see Simba become the first club from East Africa to reach the Semi-finals of the CAF WCL.

Should Simba win they will become the first team at the CAF WCL to win two group games after losing their opening game.

Ireen Lungu is again expected to be the main woman in the middle of the park for Buffaloes. The female Computer has already been involved in all the five goals her team has  scored so far.

Lungu is expected to be joined by Judith Zulu and skipper Joana Benaya in that midfield.

Aisha Mbwana is expected to start between the sticks with Lushomo Mweemba, Agness Musesa, Martha Tembo and Maylan Mulenga making up the back four.

Hellen Chanda is expected to lead the attack alongside Maweta Chilenga and Natasha Nanyangwe.

Kick off at the Grand Stade de Marrakech is set for 21:00hrs Zambian time.
