Zambian envoys in the CAF Confederation Cup, ZESCO United will face South Africa PSL side, Royal AM in the second preliminary round of the second most prestigious inter-club competition on the continent.
During the draws conducted last by the Confederation of African Football(CAF) ZESCO were handed a bye in the first round and will only join the Competition in the second preliminary round.
After playing to a barren stalemate in the first leg played in Mbabane last week, the two sides met in the return leg encounter at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Friday where Thwihli Thwahla managed a comfortable 2-0 win.
Goals from Mozambican forward Elias Pelembe just before half time and Ruzaigh Gamildeen in the 87th minute were enough to see the Dan Malesela–coached side through to the second preliminary round with 2-0 aggregate scoreline and set up a meeting with Zega Mambo.
It will be the fourth time that Zesco United will be meeting a South African side in CAF Competition as they have already faced Mamelodi Sundowns, Supersport United and Kaizer Chiefs.
Team ya Ziko will be making their seventh appearance in this competition having last featured in the second most prestigious club competition on the continent back in 2019.
The Ndola giants best finish in this competition came back in 2017 when they reached the quarter finals losing to South Africa side, Supersport United.
ZESCO United qualified to the CAF Confederation Cup by finishing second on the 2021/2022 MTN Super League table.
