CAF CC: Heart Break in Algeria as Eagles are eliminated with late goal

Hussein Dey 2 – 1 Green Eagles (Agg: 2-1)

There was heartbreak for Green Eagles in Algeria after they were eliminated from CAF Confederations Cup by by Hussein Day when they conceded an injury time goal with virtually the last kick of the game.

The two teams played to a goalless draw in Lusaka and Eagles took the game to their hosts scoring in the 3rd minute through a Collins Mulenga free kick. The Choma based team was defending well and were unfortunate to concede what looked like a soft penalty in the 37th minute which the hosts converted.

Aggrey Chiyangi set out his team to defend and counter attack in the second half and they stuck to the task very well with Spencer Sautu, Geroge Chaloba and Chilupe running their socks off in the midfield.

It looked like history was going to be made especially when a defensive mistake gifted an opportunity to the Hussein striker only for the ball to come off the upright.

However, with 5 minutes added already elapsed, the Algerians sneaked in a looping ball that beat the otherwise excellent Eagles goalie for the hosts to steal the game at the death.
