Blades return to summit as Eagles extend lead in transitional season

Konkola Blades reclaim top spot in Stream A with victory over Trident, while Derrick Bulaya’s brace keeps Green Eagles clear in Stream B.

MTN Super League Transitional Season – Matchweek 7 | Thursday, 5 November 2026

Konkola Blades returned to the top of Stream A, while Green Eagles strengthened their grip on Stream B after an eventful round of fixtures in the MTN Super League Transitional Season on Thursday.

Blades moved to 15 points after recording their fifth victory in six matches, while Green Eagles extended their unbeaten run to six games to open up a two-point lead at the top of Stream B.

Stream A: Blades reclaim top spot as Nchanga and Power win

At Konkola Stadium, Konkola Blades were made to work for all three points against Trident FC but eventually secured a 2-1 victory.

Boyd Musonda broke the deadlock from the penalty spot in the 32nd minute before Congolese striker Idriss Ilunga Mbombo doubled the hosts’ advantage five minutes later, converting Biston Banda’s assist to give Blades a comfortable 2-0 lead at half-time.

Sam Sikasote pulled one back for Trident in the 80th minute, setting up a tense finish, but Blades held on to claim maximum points.

The victory takes Blades to the top of Stream A with 15 points from six matches, having won five and lost one. They have scored 11 goals and conceded six, giving them a goal difference of +5.

They move two points clear of second-placed Nkana FC, who have 13 points from six matches.

In Lusaka, Power Dynamos climbed into the top five after edging NAPSA Stars 1-0 at REIZ Arena.

Wilson Chisala produced a moment of quality with a superb long-range effort in the 40th minute, which proved enough to separate the two sides.

The victory lifts the defending champions to fifth place on 10 points from six matches, while NAPSA remain ninth with four points after six games without a victory.

Nchanga Rangers also returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion, defeating bottom-placed Makeni All Stars 3-1.

Abraham Kanyangala opened the scoring in the 35th minute before Elliott Kampukesa took centre stage after the break.

The striker doubled Rangers’ advantage just a minute into the second half before converting from the penalty spot in the 78th minute to complete his brace and put the result beyond doubt.

Joshua Chongo scored a late consolation for Makeni in the 86th minute.

The win moves Nchanga Rangers to sixth place with seven points from six matches, providing some breathing room in the lower half of the table.

Makeni, meanwhile, remain rooted to the bottom with just one point. They have now gone six matches without a win, having suffered five defeats and conceded 15 goals.

Stream B: Bulaya brace fires Eagles clear as rivals drop points

Green Eagles continued their impressive start to the campaign with a commanding 2-0 away victory over Chirundu United.

Derrick Bulaya was the difference between the sides, breaking the deadlock three minutes after the restart before doubling his tally in the 56th minute to secure all three points for the Kawale Boys.

The result takes Eagles to 14 points from six matches, extending their unbeaten run to six games. They have recorded four wins and two draws, scoring eight goals while conceding just once.

Their defensive record remains the best in the division, and they now hold a two-point advantage at the summit of Stream B.

Chirundu United remain fourth on eight points.

Eagles’ closest challengers, Green Buffaloes, were unable to keep pace after being held to a goalless draw by Zesco United in a Lusaka derby at Sunset Stadium.

The encounter produced few clear-cut opportunities despite an encouraging start.

Paul Mbuyi was denied by Patrick Chooma in the 12th minute, with Gift Mphande producing an excellent block to stop Golden Mashata from converting the rebound.

Zesco threatened in the 30th minute when Abraham Siankombo headed over from Allan Mumba’s throw-in.

Green Buffaloes pushed for a late winner, with Chisi Mbewe introducing Yves Allarabaye and Samson Mkandawire, but neither side could find the breakthrough.

The draw leaves Buffaloes second on 12 points, two behind leaders Eagles, while Zesco United occupy third place with 10 points from seven matches.

Despite sitting four points off the summit, Zesco boast the highest goal difference in Stream B at +8, having scored 10 goals and conceded two.

In another encounter, Mutondo Stars and Mufulira Wanderers shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw as both sides continued their search for a first league victory.

Wanderers took an early lead in the 13th minute through William Kamwanga, who reacted quickest to score from the rebound after Melody Sintumfya had initially saved a penalty.

Mutondo restored parity on the hour mark, with Raphael Silwimba finishing from close range in the 60th minute to earn the hosts a point.

The result does little to improve either side’s position at the foot of the table.

Wanderers remain ninth on three points after six matches, having drawn three and lost three, while Mutondo Stars sit bottom on two points following four defeats and two draws.

Both sides are still searching for their first victory of the transitional campaign.

With the transitional season gathering pace, Konkola Blades and Green Eagles have emerged as the early pace-setters in their respective streams, but Thursday’s results have ensured that the race for the top positions remains finely poised.
