Big Blow: Barbra Banda doubtful, Irene Lungu to miss Namibia clash

The Zambia Women’s national team will be without skipper Barbra Banda when they welcome Namibia in a 2022 Morocco Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final round qualifier on Wednesday.

Banda sustained a hamstring injury during Saturday’s game and will be a big blow for coach Bruce Mwape.

The China based player was in scintillating form on Saturday and netted a brace when the Copper Queens hosted the Banyana Banyana of South Africa.

Head coach Bruce Mwape has confirmed that she is a doubt for tomorrow’s game joining Eneless Phiri and Irene Lungu in the treatment room.

“Even last time I said we have about two players who are injured. The other who is not feeling well after the South Africa game is complaining of a hamstring injury and the doctor said we should rest her and see how she recovers. If she does not recover fully she is another one who will miss,” he said.

Tickets for Wednesday’s game are available via Webtickets at Omega Mall in Northmead, priced at K20 Open Wing and K50 Grandstand.

The Brave Gladiators of Namibia arrived in Lusaka yesterday ahead of tomorrow’s game. Kick off is set for 15:00hrs.

The Copper Queens will then travel to South Africa for the second leg match against the Brave Gladiators set for February 22.

Winner over two legs will qualify to the AWCON tournament that will run from 2-23 July that also doubles as the African qualifiers to the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup to be jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
