Zambia Women’s national team defender Margaret Belemu has joined Chinese Taiping Women’s Super League side, Shanghai Shengli.
Belemu will reunite with Copper Queens’ Skipper Barbra Banda who is already on the books of the Chinese giants.
This comes over a year after the defender was initially scheduled to join the team but the move broke down due to travel restrictions.
Belemu recently cut short her stay at Turkish Women’s Super League Hakkarigucu Sports Club, a club she joined in September last year on loan from Red Arrows.
Belemu has penned a two year deal with Shanghai Shengli.
Belemu is a dependable player for the Copper Queens after rising through the ranks from junior level.
The former National Assembly player was part of the Copper Princesses’ squad that played in the 2014 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica.
Belemu was also a valuable member of the Copper Queens squad that scooped silver, bronze, and gold medals at the 2019, 2021 and 2022 COSAFA Women’s Championships respectively.
The 25 year old was also vital in the road to making history by qualifying to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and also played at the tournament.
The pacy right back again played a big role as the Copper Queens stunned Nigeria to win bronze at the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
