Barbra Banda’s injury time goal sends Copper Queens to the final round

Skipper Barbra Banda scored an injury time free kick to send Zambia to the final round of the Paris 2024 Olympic qualifier.

The Copper Queens were held to a 3-3 draw by the Black Queens of Ghana but advanced thanks to a 4-3 aggregate.

Banda gave Zambia a lead in the 11th minute but her goal was canceled out by a Griffy Assifuah equaliser.

After the break, Ghana stunned the home crowd with a goal from Doris Boawaduh in the 55 minute.

With Ghana dominating and enjoying possession, the home fans at Levy Mwanawasa resigned to defeat, Kabange Mupopo found an equaliser for Zambia.

Zambia’s celebrations were cut short after a mistake from goalkeeper Catherine Musonda gifted Azumah Bagre a goal.

Ghana leading 3-2 and star striker Racheal Kundananji stretched off with a knee injury, it needed something special to calm down the nerves.

Banda’s low drive free kick was all that mattered as the Copper Queens booked a date against either Morocco or Tunisia in the final round.
