Copper Queens star forward Barbra Banda has been featured on the iconic Times Square in New York City.
Banda is among the three National Women’s Soccer league players featured on this huge Billboard at the famous Times Square.
Banda had a brilliant first season with Orlando Pride in the NWSL helping, the Seb Hines coached side to a double as they clinched both the NWSL Shield and NWSL Championship.
Banda was named the Championship final MVP and made history when she scored in all four stages of the playoffs becoming the first player ever to do so.
Banda scored 17 goals and made 7 assists across the regular season and the playoffs for the Pride.
Banda was also named the BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year 2024 and became the first African to be named in the 2024 FIFPRO Women’s World 11, a global recognition determined by votes from 7,000 professional footballers.
At the Paris 2024 Olympic Games where she netted four goals for the Copper Queens during the tournament, Banda made history as the first player in women’s football to score three hat-tricks in Olympic games.
USA-based Zambian journalist Moses Kuwema after posing in front of the huge billboard took to social media and wrote ;
“A Zambia ku chalo historic moment I couldn’t miss. Barbra Banda is in New York City.”
The other players are 20 year old US & Angel FC player Alyssa Thompson & her compatriot, 22 year old Trinity Rodman who plays for Washington Spirit.
Ahead of the start of the 13th season this Friday, the NWSL has launched a campaign dubbed ‘Just Watch’ aimed at showing both prospective and existing fans who and why to watch.
The Pride will begin the 2025 regular season campaign at home on Friday, March 14 (Saturday, March 15th, in Zambia), by hosting Chicago Stars FC at Inter&Co Stadium at 02h00.
