Barbra Banda attributes hat-trick to great teamwork

Copper Queens skipper Barbra Banda has heaped praise on her teammates following Wednesday’s 6-0 bashing of Angola in the first leg of the 2024 WAFCON Qualifier second round.

Banda who netted a hat-trick on the day was quick to acknowledge the contributions of her teammates to get an impressive feat.

Banda is not getting carried away by the big win as she says the team still has work to do in Ndola.

“It was not an easy game. We played well as a team, we created a lot of chances especially in the first though we were in a hurry but we managed to take our time and utilised our chances we had and converted them to goals,” she said.

“We still have a long way to go. We are not underrating them, we have to finish them off at home.”

“Obviously it’s not by myself but it’s the consistency of the team and the team work upfront and that’s how I found the chance to get a hat-trick,” She added.

When asked about their working partnership with Spain based forward Rachel Kundananji, Banda said good communication is key to their brilliant combination upfront.

“We are moving at the same place and the most important thing is good communication upfront so it’s very easy for us to create chances,” she said.

“All I can say to the fans is please come and support us. You know when playing with the fans behind us it always motivates us and gives us courage.”

The Copper Queens saw off Angola 6-0 thanks to a Barbra Banda hat-trick and a goal each from Lushomo Mweemba, Ireen Lungu and Rachel Kundananji.

Coach Bruce Mwape’s team will host Angola in the return leg on Tuesday next week at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium at 18h00 CAT.

The winner over two legs will qualify for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
