Barbara Banda ready to lead Copper Queens at COSAFA

Zambia Women’s National Team captain Barbara Banda has said the team is determined and ready for tomorrow’s game against Lesotho in the 2020 COSAFA Women’s Championship which has kicked off today in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

Speaking after today’s morning training session at Hartsfield, the Chinese based striker said everyone is in high spirit ahead of their first match of the tournament.

“We are ready for tomorrow’s game everyone is determine because the morale is very high in the camp,” Banda said.

Banda who is the Chinese Taiping CFA Super League top goal scorer for the year 2020 scoring 18 goals in 13 appearances as the only foreign-based player in the Copper Queens team and she said she will take the lead by ensuring they collect maximum points.

“As a team captain I just have to take the lead according to the way I am supposed to, our aim in tomorrow’s game is to carry the day,” she said.

Zambia is in Group B alongside tomorrow’s opponents Lesotho and Malawi who they meet at 12:30hrs at Wolfson Stadium.

Coach Bruce Mwape led side will wrap up Group B on Monday at the same venue against the Scorchers of Malawi at 12:30hrs in what looks to be the group decider on who progresses to the semi-finals of the tournament which will run from 3rd up to 14th November 2020.
