Banda reflects on ‘a bad day’ against Spain and looks forward to Costa Rica challenge 

Zambia Women’s National Team captain Barbra Banda has described Wednesday’s loss to Spain as a bad day. 

Banda said the team went into the match hoping to get a win which did not happen and will now have to forge ahead. 

The Shanghai Shengli forward says the team will work hard to qualify to the upcoming tournaments like the 2024 Paris Olympics. 

“It was a bad for us. We were hoping to win but we did not carry the day and we have been eliminated.  We just have to forge ahead to our last game against Costa Rica,” she said. 

“In football, there are only three results: you can either lose, win, or draw. It’s just so unfortunate that we didn’t win any of our games.” 

“We want to qualify to the other upcoming big tournaments. We have gained a lot of experience from here and will use it going forward,” she added. 

Banda was quick to ask the fans to keep supporting the team as she believes they are improving every day. 

The Copper Queens will face Costa Rica in their final game and Banda says the team is targeting getting maximum points. 

“All we can ask for as a team is for our Zambian supporters to continue supporting us; we are improving every day,” she said. 

“I think we are developing, looking at where we are coming from; this time around we have played a couple of games at the highest level.”

“We are positive we want to get the maximum points in our last game. And we will not relax; we want to get a win,” she added. 

Zambia suffered back to back defeats at the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup to become the second team to be eliminated.
