Bakala, Kawangu to head U-17 and U-15 technical benches respectively

Ian Bakala and Aaron Kawangu have been named as head coaches of the Zambia U-17 men’s national team and U-15 national team respectively.

Bakala takes over from Nkana assistant coach George Chilufya while Kawangu takes over from Chisi who has been promoted to U-20 head coach. 

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) took to social media to confirm the appointments.

“The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has appointed Chipolopolo legend Ian Bakala as under-17 boys national team coach while Aaron Kawangu will head the under-15 bench.”

Bakala will be assisted by Dennis Makinka, Sipho Mumbi and Billy Mwanza.

The physical trainer role has been handed to 2012 AFCON winning defender Joseph Musonda while Samuel Ngulube will be the goalkeeper trainer.

On the under-15 bench the assistant coaches will be Owen Kaposa, Dominic Yobe and William Njobvu. The goalkeeping coaching duties will be assigned to Simon Kangwa while Buchizya Mfune will be the physical trainer.

The under-17 national team are preparing for the December 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers that will be played under the banner of Regional V Games in Malawi.

Coach Kawangu and his bench will be looking to build on the Georgia U15 Invitational tournament where the team finished second behind the hosts.
