Asanovic optimistic with what he saw against Benin

Zambia coach Aljosa Asanovic has picked out positives from Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Benin in a friendly match in Turkey.

The Croat said he was also happy with ‘how the team has started to play.’

“First of all, I am not happy about the result but I am happy about what I saw and how we are starting to play. How we had good connection between the lines,” the Croat said

“I saw very good transitions between the lines, good passes and we created so many chances but you know sometimes you are not lucky to score,” he added

Despite Zambia conceding twice, Asanovic believes the goals could have been avoided had the players reacted quickly.

“Because in their two goals, maybe reactions of our team is not good but I am optimistic with what I saw and how we trained [even though] we didn’t have too much time to prepare.

He also applauded his players for the work ethic despite playing a second game 36 hours apart.

‘Don’t forget we are playing second game after 36 hours. You know for the players, it’s not easy.

“I am not happy with the result but happy with what I saw.

“The atmosphere between the players and the staff is great, and just continue like that.

The 53 year old also revealed that team spirit in camp was great.
