AFCON 2015 Draw – Which team avoids Chipolopolo

The Chipolopolo will tonight know their group opponents at the Equatorial Guinea 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

Zambia were seeded for the draws but this may not be so comforting for the Honour Janza coached side as most of the in-form teams are in different pots.

Zambia will manage to avoid hosts E Guinea, Ghana and Burkina Faso but could draw Africa’s highest ranked team Algeria, in-form South Africa and resurgent Senegal.

The draws will be live on Supersport.

How would you love Zambia’s group to line-up?

POT 1
Equatorial Guinea (Hosts), Ghana (20 points), Zambia (19 points), Burkina Faso (18 Points)

POT 2
Ivory Coast (18 Points), Mali (16 Points), Tunisia (8 Points), Algeria (6 Points)

POT 3
Cape Verde (6 Points), South Africa (6 Points), Gabon (5 Points), DR Congo (3 Points)

POT 4
Cameroun (2 Points), Senegal (2 Points, Guinea (2 Points), Congo (0 Points)

  1. No team at the AFCON is weak. So we should expect the toughest and conquer them all. We have beaten them before and they have also beaten us before. So let’s just play Ball.

  2. Zambia always looking for cheap side. This is why I admire Ghana, they massacred Egypt to book a place in Brazil. that’s the mark of a mature team

but Zambia is either crying over unfair fifa ranking or not being a top seed. now you are seeded so you know in football, it’s what happens on the pitch in 90 minutes that matters.

One afcon trophy and you think you are big boys. hahaha. Please call back Mr katongo because after tonight’s draw, reality will awaken you before you get crushed in equatorial Guinea

  3. From pot 2, Algeria are definitely the most outstanding team. Ivory Coast have got experienced names but their reputation as “the near men” of African football may come into play again. I watched Mali against Malawi and there was nothing to suggest Mali will be a threat. Tunisia (just like all Arab nations) will be tough opponents due to their professional organization.

From pot 3, I’d gladly take any team apart from RSA who in my opinion will be the dark horses. Plus they’re from the Cossfa region.

From pot 4, with due respect to Congo and Guinea, only Cameroon and Senegal pose any real threat to Zambia. And If I had a choice then I’d rather we meet Senegal as opposed to Cameroon who in my humble view are joint favourites with Algeria.

The good thing though is that results in football don’t always go according to the script.

  4. @wc from Botswana, look at your team first, where is your team my friend ? we would want to avoid north African countries{ ARABS } because they give us tough time on the pitch and that is the truth. we have beaten your so called big teams before.

  5. Lets be mature gentlemen, the draws will be made and we may find that countries fans here to talk trash to us. Lets not encourage them, eyes on the ball.

I hope the young lads have the best experience from this Afcon to take to the future.

    Zambia, Zambia.

  6. @wc from Botswana….Egypt are a spent force bro, even Botswana beat them in the group stages no wander we not counting them amongst the 16 teams…politics killed their game.

  7. I think DRC will be the surprise package of this Afcon. I watched the way they beat the Ivory Coast in Abidjan, it was truly impressive. I understand 80% of the team play in Europe where most were born and bred. Some have chosen to play for the DRC after they realised they had no chance to play for their countries of birth because of the competition.

Why dont we also try to woo Tika Musonda who could help us with our leaky defence? The young man has a better chance with Zambia than Belgium which is spoilt with so much talent at the moment and guys like Kompany and Co are not about to retire.

  8. @Don. …… that’s very true, but prior to meeting Ghana, they had a 100% record in the qualifyiers.

@nakedgoal ……my point is, if you want to be respected as a football nation, you must be ready for any opponent.

I know Botswana hasn’t achieved much in football but gradually we getting there in humility, unlike Zambia with in inflated ego after one trophy.

Egypt has 5 trophies so they are still a force to reckon with

      • Kikiikiki thats a gud one yes if you dont have football legs take them elsewhere. What has Botswana got to offer. We are very very proud with AFCON Trophy.

  9. This is a done deal, Zambia is winning this cup, I don’t even know why other teams are going to make up numbers. This is in the bag period and we are not accepting anything less. The standards are high.

  10. Iwe just shut up! Botswana National team is useless not even good enough for Zambian division 3…you have no history not even a future in football

  11. Easy guys, wc from Botswana is a ghanaian, lets wait for a draw but i doubt with our political situation in our country, we are not in top four favourites; Cameroun, Senegal, Rsa, Tunisia.

  12. Algeria are not favourites in my book. One of the most improved teams will luck experience while the other will suffer reling on Madalas. They are RSA, CAMEROUN, SENEGAL, ALGERIA, TUNISIA & ZAMBIA! Truee winners will emerge from there but I bark Zambia to restore our stolen proud.

  13. Wc from Botswana…Every nation that wins a 16 AFCON tourney got a right to talk big cos it ain’t easy to overcome all n be crowned champs. We looking forward to do the same in Jan.

  14. Sorry Zamfoot I did not answer your quetion. Eq Guinea as hosts avoided us, including Ghana & Ivory Coast, as you may remember we butcthared all those teams in 2012, Senegal inclusive. Viva my self & EL.

  15. Zambia, Tunisia, Cape Verde, DR Congo.
    Fair draw, but tough teams.
South Africa mayeeee, is in a group of death.
    Ghana, South Africa, Tunisia, Senegal.

    Eq. Guinea

    Gabon

    Group B: Ebebiyin
    Zambia
    Congo DR
    Cape Verde

    Group C: Mongomo

  17. John Bennett, BBC World Service: “Gabon and Burkina Faso – with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Jonathan Pitroipa the star names – met in qualifying and will be the favourites to progress from Group A. Group B is wide open. Tunisia and Cape Verde eased through qualifying but both Zambia and DR Congo are in good form. Group C is a nightmare to call. Every match will be close. Meanwhile in Group D, Ivory Coast are reunited with Cameroon, who beat them 4-1 back in September.”

  18. John Bennett, BBC World Service: “Group C will grab all the headlines after that draw. It contains four teams who could all be considered as genuine contenders for the trophy. Algeria are tournament favourites after their excellent World Cup, Senegal have Premier League stars, South Africa were in great form in qualifying and Ghana are one of Africa’s giants. It’s a nightmare draw for all four teams.”

  19. Stat attack (BBC Sport)

    – There will be no debutants in January’s tournament, with Equatorial Guinea and Cape Verde making their second appearance.
    – Only Nigeria (2015) and Egypt (2012) have failed to qualify after winning the previous tournament.

Group A: Equatorial Guinea, Congo, Gabon, Burkina Faso
Group B: Zambia, DR Congo, Cape Verde, Tunisia
Group C: Ghana, Senegal, South Africa, Algeria
Group D: Ivory Coast, Guinea, Cameroon, Mali

  20. Akamu Tswana atase,I think zambia is on record books of winners of AFCON ,now you boy the Zebras, how on earth can you nickname your country such a soft animal nowonder you are small in terms of football, are just their to make up numbers.Check AFCON history and you will know that zambia is the big dog of African football,The first African country to reach the quarter finals of Olympics, the only country in East and Cosafa with an African player award, that with others too numerous to mention are enough my friend to make one brag too much.

  21. wc from Botswana must be another West African economic refugee in Southern Africa. Just ignore him please. Viva Chipolopolo, Viva Zebra, Viva Bafana-Bafana….and all the other COSAFA teams

  22. all of you hating on me be warned, else I will never blog here again.

Many people are tipping #Algeria, #Cameroon and #SouthAfrica to win afcon 2015 but I won’t be surprised by the under dogs.

The media hyping will just inflate their egos until reality beckons.

If Zambia wants to win afcon 2015, they need a good coach, Janza is inexperienced plus they also need chris katongo. He has been scoring in recent times and a delight to watch in the absa premiership
