ABSA Cup Quarterfinals: Revenge and Redemption on the Line

The 2025 ABSA Cup quarterfinals are set to ignite Lusaka, with Red Arrows locking horns with Green Eagles in a lunchtime showdown and Power Dynamos facing off against Kabwe Warriors.

In the pre-match press conference, Green Eagles’ Kebby Hachipuka vowed to exact revenge on the airmen, who have knocked his team out in the last two editions.

“I think for tomorrow’s game, we are very much well prepared. We know we will be facing the defending champions; it is the same team, which knocked us out in the previous tournament,” he said.

“For tomorrow I think it is going to be a revenge, we know their weaknesses and their strengths.”

Red Arrows’ assistant coach, Kalililo Kakonje, sees the ABSA Cup as an opportunity for redemption after a lackluster league campaign.

“We’ve had a mixed season, but the ABSA Cup gives us a chance to regain some dignity,” he said.

Green Eagles are determined to breach the quarterfinal mark, while Red Arrows aim to shake off their league struggles with ABSA Cup glory.

Red Arrows captain Saddam Yusuf Phiri emphasized the need for readiness and a positive attitude against the defending champions.

“Every team has to beat the champions, so it won’t be easy for us. We need to be ready and bring out our positive attitude tomorrow,” he said.

“If now we will be taken out by Green Eagles just by what they have said but we have to be ready for them.”

ABSA Cup’s Mato Simabale praised fans for their enthusiasm, highlighting the unity and camaraderie the tournament brings.

The quarterfinals promise excitement, with Man of the Match prizes standing at K15,000.

The matches kick off on Sunday, with Red Arrows vs Green Eagles at 12:30 hours and Power Dynamos vs Kabwe Warriors at 15:00 hours.
