FAZ National Division One side Indeni will this Saturday face off against Kabwe Warriors in the Absa Cup 2024 quarterfinals hoping to extend their ‘giant killing’ run in the tournament.
Indeni qualified to the last eight of the competition after beating Nkwazi 4-3 on penalties to set-up a meeting with Kabwe Warriors who edged Lumwana Radiants 1-0 courtesy of a Frederick Mwimanzi header in the 57th minute.
Oilmen coach Tenant Chembo says the Absa Cup will test the club’s ambition of securing Super League football this season.
“We are playing one of the great teams with some rich history of football. We shall give it a good run and have told players to go out there and enjoy the game. We have psyched the team and the main target that we have at the moment is to qualify into the premier league,” Chembo said.
“We are coming to this stage for the players, the club and the community of Ndola. We have told the boys to put some resilience and enjoy the game.”
His captain Martin Phiri said the Oilmen are ready for battle and will do all what it takes to reach the pre-semi-final stage, while Warriors skipper Clement Mundia is looking forward to impressing in the tournament after producing a man of the match performance in the 1-0 win over Lumwana in the round of 16.
Warriors coach Numba Mumamba said Walya Nganga are taking Saturday’s game against Indeni seriously.
“This (Indeni) is the team that has played in the premier league several times. We expect a very tough game. We are geared and have done our homework,” Numba said.
“Our target is to get the result that will see us progress to the semi-finals. We have a good team that can beat any team at any given time. We have worked on the grey areas and we are set to go.”
