Teams that will take part in the 2024 ABSA Cup are now known following last weekend’s action in both the MTN Super League action and National Division One.
ABSA Bank Zambia last year increased the sponsorship of the only Cup Competition in the country by 10 percent making it 4.4 Million.
It will be interesting to see if there will be an increment in 2024 as the tournament enters its 17th year.
Record 6 time Champions ZESCO United have qualified alongside, two time winners Power Dynamos, and 2013 Champions Red Arrows.
Others are 2015 finalists, Nkwazi, 2023 runners up FC MUZA, Kabwe Warriors, Nchanga Rangers and newcomers Atletico Lusaka.
The 2023 Champions, Forest Rangers walked away with K700,000 while the runners up, FC MUZA pocketed K350,000.
Coach of the tournament and player of the tournament accolades were pegged at K25,000 with man of the match award being K15,000.
Two more awards were introduced, The top goalscorer and golden glove award which saw the winners walk away with K25,000 each.
Travel grant for teams playing locally was put at K20,000 while K30,000 was the grant that teams coming from out of town were entitled to last year.
The ZamFoot Crew understands that there is a possibility of expanding the tournament to include provincial teams and talks are currently underway.
For now the tournament remains at eight teams starting at the quarter final stage.
