Striker Gamphani ‘Mr. Jones’ Lungu was in tiptop form on Saturday as he scored a goal and assisted twice for Supersport United to help them to a 3-2 win over Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila in the MTN 8.
Mr. Jones started on the right side of the attack in a very attack-minded Matsatsantsa set up with Bradley Grobler, Thamsanqa Aubrey Gabuza, and Iqraam Rayners all starting upfront with the Zambian forward.
Supersport United were 1-0 up eight minutes into the match, Gamphani Lungu with a brilliant run down the wing squaring the ball back for an onrushing Grobler to open his account for the season and put United in the lead.
20 minutes later Gampy was again at it with a brilliant switch to Rayners who made no mistake with a curler to make up for his earlier mistake that saw him fluff his line after Lungu and Gabuza combined to put him on for an easy tap in.
Five minutes later Lungu finally got on the score sheet as he did well to beat a defender before unleashing a beautiful low drive to make it 3-0 inside 33 minutes.
A minute to half time Botswana midfielder Mogakolodi Ngele produced a moment of magic with a brilliant long-range effort that left Ronwen Williams standing like a statue, 3- 1 going into the break.
Eleven minutes into the second half Ngele grabbed his brace with a header after a beautifully taken corner kick from Justin Shonga who marked his debut for his new club with an assist.
