Zesco load-shed Power at Levy Stadium

League champions Zesco United returned to action in the local league for the first time since 12th July with a resounding 4 – 0 win over third placed Power Dynamos in a game played at Levy Mwanwasa Stadium.

Zesco coach George Lwandamina fielded a strong Zesco side making only two changes to the squad that started against Al Ahly in Egypt with Lameck Nyangu starting ahead of captain Jacob Banda while Dauti Musekwa came in for Simon Silwimba at right back.

Jackson Mwanza and Clatous Chama scored a brace apiece as the CAF Champions League semi-finalists humiliated Power Dynamos who came in the game with the best form in the league.

Power had managed five consecutive wins and not lost in the last seven games but the tide turned against them as early as the 7th minute when Mwanza opened the scores.

Despite Larry Bwalya missing what seemed like a sure chance, Zesco were not looking back as Chama added a second for the Ndola side just before half time.

Mwanza completed his brace in the 75th minute before Chama wrapped up the socring five minutes from full time.

George Lwandamina and his 2nd assistant were given marching orders in the game.

There were no movements on the log despite the results as Power remain third on 40 points while Zesco are fifth on 36 points with 5 games in hand.

The win leaves Zesco 16 points behind log leaders Zanaco.

They have games in hand against Nakambala Leopards, Napsa Stars, Lumwana Radiants, Red Arrows and Forest Rangers.

Their weekend fixture against Nkwazi has been postponed to a later date in order to prepare for a top of Group A Caf Champions League match against Wydad Casablanca scheduled for Wednesday next week.

  1. before yesterday’s game, Zesco United had 33points so they not have 37 when you add 3points they picked up yesterday BUT 36; check your records !

Then believe you meant to say 15points behind logleaders Zanaco Fc and not Nkana as you put in your story about their (Zesco’s) game against Power Dynamos .

Wish you had indicated what prompted the referee to send Zesco coach off the host’s bench (was it dissent or abusive language ?). Well whatever the cause, hope the players do not follow “suit” since he is one of the senior coaches we have around .
