Zesco United will go into the CAF Champions League Group A opener at home against Al Ahly of Egypt with a second string striker force after their two sharp shooters Jesse Were and Idriss Mbombo were ruled out of the game.
Zesco announced that Kenyan international Were who is also league top scorer with 10 goals is suspended for the game against the record African champions after accruing two yellow cards together with captain and scorer of the goal for Zesco over the weekend Ben Bahn of Ivory Coast.
Unfortunately for the Zambian champions, Mbombo who was substituted after an injury in the weekend game against Nkana will not recover in time for the game on Saturday.
“Mbombo is still undergoing physio but he is responding well to treatment and we thought that maybe for this game that we rest him,” Zesco team physician Dr Stephen Mbewe said.
The Congolese striker is the leading scorer for Zesco in the champions league having scored four goals so far.
The absence of the two leaves Jackson Mwanza and Lazarous Kambole on the list of strikers registered for the champions league.
Zesco play Al Ahly at Levy Mwanawasa stadium on Saturday.
Zesco United other opponents in Group A are Wydad Casablanca (Morrocco) and Asec Mimosas (Ivory Coast).

zesco is a good team but not better than the egytians so without the three they need to work extra hard in the midfield and defence to force a draw or win but wining i i dont think so
