FAZ President Kalusha last evening received yet another accolade of recognition of his footballing career.
Africa 10, an organisation chaired by former United Nations Secretary General, Koffi Annan, has given Kalusha this Continental thumbs up at a colourful ceremony in England. Kalusha who is also a CAF Executive Committee member, has been honoured for his illustrious football career spanning over thirty years.
Africa 10 is aimed at recognising sports men and women in Africa that have given their all to better Sport on the continent.
The 1988 African footballer of the year, will now be one of the 10 to carry the vision of Africa 10.
Other members of Africa 10 include Didier Drogba, Samuel Eto’o, Nwanko Kanu, Jay Jay Okocha, Abedi Pele Rodger Milla, Yaya Toure, Rabah Major and George Weah.

Enough respect to our great Kalu, but my number one has always been Jay-jay Okocha. He was a marvel to watch…
the only true Zambian legend….no wonder Charles Musonda is hurting…he will never reach the heights of kalu
Meanwhile you probably dont know that Charles played for a much higher decorated club then Kalu!
Yet Charley achieved nothing at his so called decorated club. Kalu has shown patriotism for his country. His love and growth for African football can’t be denied, hence this recognition. Big ups great Kalu, we wish you more success in your endeavors.. continue being an inspiration to the nation.
That’s not true ,at the time Kalu joined PSV ,they had more big names compared to Anderlecht .In terms of achievements ,they are almost at the same level ,they both had European success in the 80s,if anything PSV should have a better achievement record .Romario was the hottest player at the time and he could only accept to play for a bigger club with big reputation in the name of PSV. They also acquired Brazilian Ronaldo and many more famous football names
Its not fair to compare the two. Charlies career came to an end due to injuries, had it not been to thst we wld ve seen him contribute more just like Kalu himself.
They were still very different in Quality ,Kalu scored and provided assists while Charles rarely scored though he provided assists. Kalu scored from open play and set pieces ,he was also good at dribbling passed the opponents while Charles could not go passed many and his strength was precise passing and twisting and turning with the ball-Xavi style
Spot on! Thanks for this sweet and concise technical assessment of these 2 great sons of Zambia.
Xavi must have been watching Bashi Lamisha!!!…he was only 6 years when Charly joined Cercle Brugge!!
Kalu ‘s contribution to zambianfootball is massive compared to the musonda charlie(even has not supported zamfoot apart from playing for them) or anyone else…and he has done so much for this country even though many think otherwise
Well done Kalusha. Congrats.
congrats great Kaluga
Congrats
well done king kalu we are really proud of you and Africa for showing now you care About our heros in sport.
I hope we can do more for spoet men and women in the contenent
Yours Mohammed Yussuf
That’s the mistake charly musonda will live with. You can only be recognised by your own. With belgium charly musonda might end up being a nobody. But coming to play for mother zambia he may well end up becoming African footballer of the year and playing for great clubs like barcelona just like what eto did. Charly musonda already has a Belgian passport so he can live in europe for the rest of his life. All he needed to do was get a zambian one so he could play for the country of his roots and make a name for himself. He has chosen belgium. For his sake let’s hope it’s not a move that back fires on him
So can also say you should be staying and working in Zambia so that your tax benefits Zambia more than where you are?? Just asking and for consistency sake!
Abakali bakali, congratulations mr Bwalya thats why u a great.
By continually pitting Kalu against Charles we are doing more harm than good to football in Zambia. True, they became bitter opponents at some point of their careers and none of us enjoy it.
Kalu had a remarkably rich career spanning 2 decades across 4 continents and his achievement is unparalleled. On the other hand circumstances (injuries..) didn’t favour his Muf’s home boy, Charles; nonetheless, to his credit he became the first Zambian to be recruited by a legendary European club i.e. Anderlecht Fc (twice winners of the European Cup Winners’ cup in the late 70’s. He was so good and showed so much promise that they spared no expense to rehabilitate him (Zambia did nothing. This speaks volumes about Charles’potential which unfortunately he never fulfilled.
You are the people this great country Zambia need who are not easy forgetters GREAT KALU did much for country even when his friends said let us just stop playing foot ball after the Gabon disaster he said NO ,and helped to build a new team what a man. Those of us who are patriotic enough shall remember for the things he did for Zambia.
If u watched kalu at his pick he was the best he deserves even more, watch kalu frm 1986 to 1994 if u ii still praise okocha he had a class which africa hasent produced yet
How about Abedi Pele and Geaorge Ware??? How did Kalu compare with them. I may add Tony Yeboa
George Weah is the only African to have won the FIFA World Footballer of the Year award..he was also chosen 3 times Africa footballer of the year…
Abedi Pele was crowned Africa footballer of the year 3 times whereas Kalu won it once…the only one in Southern Africa to have achieved that distinction. Tony Yeboah was great but not in the league the Weah, Abedi and Kalu in that order.
Congrats King Kalu
yaaa kalu and okocha were good prayers to watch. And the two are my african players of the centuary
JJ okocha and Great Kalu these were men on the pitch guys. I really loved to watch JJ by then at borton wanderers. surely they desrve this. Congrats guys.
This is what angers some people. They simply can’t stand it
What!!! Kalusha being compared to Okocha…then u never watched him at his peak brother…kalusha is actually one of the best footballers the world has ever produced…those who watched him at his peak can attest to this…he hasn’t even being rewarded like he deserves to…anyways th@s w@ happens wen u sacrifice a country like Zambia..we don’t really appreciate our legends like we should..its nowonder Charles will not allow his son to com play his soccer in ths country.
How do you bring in Musonda in all this? The guy is very comfortable with his family in Belgium. No load shedding.and all related hardships connected to poor governance.
Your corrupt Kalu is being propelled by the corrupt CAF executive members, whose nomination and recommendation to Anani resulted being named in the top 10.
Mmmmmm naimwe don’t bring corruption in this great Kalu deserves it he is the only African footballer Southern Africa. Look at all the ten chosen they are all legends. Bashimwana mukafwa nechikonko. Just salute great Kalu for this and share in the celebration
Ati ukafwa nechikoko I love this
some people bachinkoko zoona
If great kalu is propelled by corrupt caf
Then u are as well corrupted by evil senses.ba mud ala stop being petty n face reality.this football n not politics or mapatizya governance.no politics is sport please.
Dont know what this award has anything to do with Charles Musonda. It is actually cally sour grapes on our part. We really know that Charles was good and for whatever reason we want now to claim that he wasnt!!!Cut the crap!!!!Its Zambia that needs Charles’ son to play for Chipolopolo, so why should you continue taunting them???Suppose they today decided to say Charly jr accepts the call-up, what are you guys making funny of them going to say????That sudenly Charles wass a legend???He doesnt need your seal of approval to be great, Charles was good and it is just unfortunate that he didnt last!!!!!!and not a fault of his own!!!!
@zuberi bitter news ka? Kikiki, ulimbe!
Lets just congratulate great Kalu without demeaning others. Lets face it, Kalu was good and he derserves whatever award, but that doesnt make others useless!!!!Any wonder we dont hear Johnson bwalya mentioned anywhere????Didnt Johnson also contribute greatly?????Can I take it then that someone is going around blowing off other pipo’s lights so that only theirs remain????
Johnson Bwalya was a brave man, played with is his heart as well as his feet…I remember a friend of mine who used to say ‘Johnson plays like a real man’. Everyone who gets selected to play for Chipolopolo has a special place in our hearts but they aren’t all equally talented…Nothing wrong with that.
U neva watched dem at mighty.as tho who thronged shinde stadium and chawama hall we know what kalu and his brothers Benjamin, joe and chongo did n we know what charly n bilton did.its only weak minds which are fueling dis beef.ask chicken George n not these women we marry anyhow.they were great great friends from luapula.
Congrats king Kalu nice 1. Obviously we’ve had enough of this charly musonda issue haven’t we? U can make yo comparisons but @ the end of the day the heading speaks 4 itself.#jst gonna leave rite here
Congrats great Kalu the perfect stricker. The only great pa south equator. And ba Charlie cool a master midfielder.
Congrats Great Kalu! U have usually done us proud and please stay on course carrying the great Zambian flag. Sir Charles Musonda, we still love u despite the bitter words on our social media. U are our own and gave your best at the time if your peak. U are still family and surely help our Zambian economy by sending some great currencies back home. Whether your son(s)play for Zambia or not we shall still respect u and love! Our connection with u is beyond Belgium! The Zambian blood flows in u and your dearest family but decision we shall uphold with peace. Shalom
Nobody denies that Kalusha Bwalya was a good player. What at question is his competence in administration. It can be argued that even without him Zambia was bound to eventually win an Afcon. But it’s been down hill since 2012. The Chipolopolo have looked out of sorts. The reactions from football house have left much to be desired. First installing Beaumele as coach (he seemed not to want the job) then Janza (he looked way out of his comfort zone) and certain player selections.
Now with campaigns in full swing all we hear is “we brought afcon! ” No talk of the future.
Another mistake in my view is this hastily put together league structure. It certainly pleased many who will be voting later this month but I think it will reduce the competitiveness of the super league. In the end Zambia suffers. I could go on with a list of misdeeds from football house but I won’t. The biggest reason for me as to why we should vote Kalu out is this sense of stagnation in Zambian football. You see it in the low quality of the players coming into the national team. Senior players missing basic skills like passing, turning, trapping and shooting. Our players are very poor at decision making on the pitch. The situation is so bad that there’s only one natural Zambian goal scorer in the league today (Luchanga). With the rest it’s a hit and miss affair.
I coil of write a book on Zambian football but I’ll end here today.
Well great Kalu……. Stop comparing Musonda sir is comfortable with his family that’s his achievements.
hate or love him great kalu is the best ever.i remember the great kalu playing ahead of romario at psv in holland. this is great and one moment was in top twenty on number 11 and that year kanu was on no 4 as africa’s best. charles musonda was full of jokes faking injuries. barring his kids from playing for zambia doesnot stop zambia from achieving.and after all have a lot talented young stars.
Charly Musonda chapter can be allowed to rest, he’s
chosen Belgium. Meanwhile congratulations to the man who looks beyond the insults and sees Zambia as important
Ati Zambia is exported Maize at $200 and they are importing at $500 ulabeja lol. Team ya Ziko balange…..ailanga ilanga lelo oiyee….ati abo mwana ailanga niba ZEGA ailanga!
meant to write …Has Exported
Kalu has earned this thoroughly. I congratulate him and long may he continue!
That does not mean i want him as FA president again. It is time for change, for better or worse, it is time for change.
My thoughts as well. Kalusha will do well when he continues with CAF and FIFA assignments.
Just the technique on the free kick. It has never been replicated. Great kalu. Thank you koffi Anan for such a fair thing. Kalu was a remarkable footballers Africa should be proud of. Professor king kalu. Can you see people no issues with Charlie Musonda. Both kalu and Charlie will get their reward for their talent. Maybe from different people.
Great Kalu worked hard on the pitch like the other 9 and deserves it with no apologies to anyone. That said I don’t the relevance of even comparing those that didn’t get to his heights. Kalu and Charles enjoyed a mutually beneficial telepathic relationship on the pitch for us that had an opportunity to watch them and that deserves an appreciation from every genuine soccer fan. Charly Jr has said only him and not the parent will choose which country he shall choose and we can only respect his opinion
Congrats to Kalu, keep rolling those accolades in. You are a true African legend without fail.
Congrats Great Kalu for this achievement. My only worry is why go to London when we are talking about African Legends. We should have gone to Addis Ababa, Lome, Joburg, Lagos or better still Lusaka. Come on AFRICA!
Very good point!!
A solid point we are overlooking. Why London? What has happened to our thinking ? Inferiority? We have come of age, at least, in football. Thank you D4.
Congrats Great Kalu. Man you have flown the Zambian flag higher. We proud of you.
KALUSHA HAS AGAIN SHAMED CRITICS LIKE KAMANGA AND SIMATA WHO HAVE NOTHING TO SHOW ABOUT,VIVA KALUSHA
ba Siame naimwe, Kalu was a footballer, Simata is an accomplished Banker and a very good Lecturer in case you didnt know(Teaches a Masters class-One of the best in Risk Management) Kamanga is an accomplished accountant and Entrepreneur. These guys just like football, they don live-off football like some pipo do. They have lives outside football, what about your Hero!!!He is being honoured as a former footballer, that we all agree, he was a great footballer. Cerebrate his honors without taunting others!!!!!!!!
Well said. In fact the award is for 30 years of his contribution to football that includes his current status!
Thank you Zagwa, for pumping some senses into Bryan’s ignorant claim. We all agree and appreciate what Kalu did as a player. He was great, and at my age, I am yet to see anybody better than him in Zambia..I don’t know if that will ever happen. He ruled as a player no doubt, but he is corrupt and that is not being a hater, just the facts.
Viva Great Kalu ,shame to the haters
Many more are hurting! (Like a big “thing” blocking the throat!)
I wish they could play even now as a team I think they can win the World Cup!
This article is talking of Kalusha being honoured with other Greats Of Africa.
Its not talking of FAZ elections hence some of us are not talking of other issues like corruption or re-election of Kalu. We addressing the topic at hand. The issue of corruption in FAZ and other short comings I feel are not on this particular topic. That’s my opinion.
