2023 ABSA Cup draw set for Wednesday

The draw for the 2023 Absa Cup is set to take place in Lusaka on Wednesday, March 1.

This will kick off the start of the only Cup competition in the country. 

The eight teams involved in the 2023 Absa Cup comprise the top six clubs from MTN Super League and the top two FAZ National Division One clubs as of Week 17.

2015 Champions Green Buffaloes and 2013 Champions Red Arrows have been seeded alongside Green Eagles and Power Dynamos who won it in 2011. 

The unseeded teams are Super League sides Forest Rangers, and FC MUZA, Legendary Cup winners Mufulira Wanderers and National Division One log leaders Trident FC.

The defending Champions NAPSA Stars did not qualify after finishing outside the top six as at week 17. 

The Pensioners walked away with K650,000 after winning the tournament while Red Arrows walked away with K300,000 as runners up. 

ABSA Bank Zambia have been gradually increasing the sponsorship for the tournament. 

A K4 million sponsorship package was made available for the 2022 ABSA Cup campaign from the K3.8 million pumped in during the previous year. 

The package for 2023 is expected to be increased to around K4.3 Million.  

Apart from the already available individual accolades of player of the tournament, man of the match and coach of the tournament a new award is expected to be introduced. 

The quarter-finals are scheduled for the weekend of March 11 and 12, with the semi-finals a month later on April 8 and 9. The final will take place on Saturday May 13.
