Buffaloes silence Kalampa, Napsa stun Zanaco as Nkwazi, Forest gate crash top four

Green Buffaloes reclaimed top spot after a convincing victory over Nkana in Kitwe.

In Ndola, Forest Rangers beat Nakambala Leopards to gate crash the top four.

In Lusaka, Zanaco’ s woes continued after they suffered a defeat to Napsa Stars at Sunset Stadium.

Nkwazi continued their winning streak with vital win in Choma as they gunned down Green Eagles.

NKANA 1-2 GREEN BUFFALOES (Idriss Mbombo 38′ | Diamond Chikwekwe 1′, Jesper Masialeti 50′)

Green Buffaloes maintained their unbeaten against Nkana with an impressive 2-1 victory at Nkana Stadium in Kitwe.

Winger Diamond Chikwekwe scored from his rebound after his initial effort hit the woodwork to give the soldiers the lead in the first minute.

Straight from scoring a brace against Kabwe Warriors last week, red hot Idriss Mbombo equalised thanks to a Walter Bwalya Sabwa assist.

After the break, substitute Jesper Masialeti slotted home what proved to be the winner as Buffaloes took over the summit of the log from Zesco United who were not in action.

Buffaloes have collected 24 points from a possible 33 while Nkana have a 19 points and on fifth position.

ZANACO 1-2 NAPSA STARS (Maisha Chavda 85′ | Luka Lungu 7′, Alex Mwamba 90′)

An injury time goal from Alex Mwamba made sure Napsa Stars collected maximum points at Sunset Stadium as Zanaco went five games without a win for the first time in over a decade.

Former Power Dynamos striker Luka Lungu gave the pensioners the lead and Zanaco struggled to find the back of the net until substitute Maisha Chavda headed home off a Guily Manziba cross for the equaliser.

With the clock running down, Toaster Nsabata parried the ball off a Jean Nzeyimana free kick and Mwamba calmly slotted home off the rebound to give Napsa Stars their first win of the season.

Napsa are 18th on the log with 6 points while the bankers are 10th with 2 games in hand on 14 points.

  1. The underwhelming performance of Zanaco, Nkana, Power Dynamos, Lusaka Dynamoes, Buildcon and to some extent Zesco should be a cause for worry to the football loving Zambians!!!!The above mentioned teams have considerable foreign representation and other things being equal, were expected to be miles ahead of the smaller teams!!!To the sponsors, we appreciate the amount of resources you are pumping into these teams, but I can safely say you are being shortchanged!!!!!My analysis is this, and I ll pick a country like Ghana. The first tier of players go to Europe, next to South Africa and North Africa, then we scrounge for the crumbs in the third and fourth tier(After TP Mazembe has made its pick)!!!With these we come back confidently thinking we can dominate not just the local league but Africa????

Can we spend alittle more time scountingthe local teams, including the non league teams in the vilages(fashion sakala I m told is a product of such teams). We have as good players as other countries, as such we dont need to rely of third class players to lightup our league. If we do, we shouldnt be surprised that teams from Swaziland, angola, and elsewhere would be coming to walk over us. The Zambian league has never recieved such local goodwill and support from the fans, but the corporate decisons sponsors are making in players acquisition is about to mess that up. Why really should we go to a stadium to watch rejects from Ghana, Nigeria, Congo, Kenya, Guinea featuring in our elite teams???
