Team of the Week – Mighty contributes two players after City draw

After loads of super league matches the ZamFoot Crew picks the best performing XI from the matches played across the country in week 21.

Goalkeeper: William Chibale (Kabwe Warriors) – The former Zambia Under-23 shot stopper made two crucial saves to deny John Mukwata including a breathtaking fingertip save. He gets the nod ahead of Napsa Stars’ Philip Banda.

Right Back: Fred Musinde (Napsa Stars) – The Congolese defender had to pass a late fitness but that didn’t prevent him from having a solid game. Originally a centre back, the tall defender has been impressive at full back and offered maturity to a relatively young back line.

Left back: Joseph Ochaya (Lusaka Dynamos) – Top class performance from the East African. He is a midfielder’s dream full back. Against Nkwazi, he kept wide and wiped in over 7 deadly crosses and ended the game with an assist for Chris Mugalu’s goal. Again brilliant performance.

Centre Back: Warren Kunda (Green Eagles) – The former Mufulira Wanderers and Nkana defender was good. Steady defending and good positioning. He did not give Kwame Attram and Lokwa in the Zanaco attack any space to have clear sight of goal.

Centre Back: Billy Mutale (Power Dynamos) – Very committed showing from the former u23 center back who appears to be coming of age. Great Aerial presence and good footwork.

Central midfield: Edward Tembo (City of Lusaka) – He commanded the midfield like a boss and topped it with a fabulous goal on the volley. The University of Zambia lad showed that he has a lot to offer in the league.

Right Wing: Chrispin M Sakulanda (Mufulira Wanderers) – Used his pace, control and dribbling to great effect on the day and really made City of Lusaka defenders earn their pay. Amazing first touch on the lad.

Left Wing: Augustine Mulenga (ZANACO) – Busy bee showing from the Zanaco wide man, who set up numerous chances for Lokwa and company in the Zanaco front line which were only squandered by poor finishing. His good run in-field and neat pass found Ernest Mbewe for the ‘Bankers’ goal.

Attacking midfielder: Moses Tembo (Nakambala Leopards) – While Zesco United were terrific in the first half, the midfielder rallied his men with a vintage performance in the middle of the park and his side almost snatched a point at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.

Second Striker:John Mukwata (Buildcon) – He might not have been on the score-sheet but the Congolese could have grabbed a brace and an assist. His movement off the ball was a marvel to watch. One of the talking points was his link up play with left winger Miheso.

Striker: Rahim Osumanu (Mufulira Wanderers) – The West African notched up a brace . Apart from the goals he kept the City of Lusaka defenders on their toes. It was a proper target man’s performance.

  1. Thanks Zamfoot. Look like Billy Mutale continues to perform well in the league, but can’t seem to hold a place at the national team level.

  2. BILLY MUTALE AND SHAMUJOMPA HAVE BEEN PARTNERS AT THE NATIONAL TEAM UNTIL WHEN HE AND FWAYO SNUBBED A CALL UP AGAINST SOUTH AFRICA. EVER SINCE THAT, COACH WADA WADA HAS STOPPED CALLING HIM. WEBSTER MULENGA WHO PARTNERED SHAMUJOMPA AT THE JUST ENDED COSAFA WAS A MAKESHIFT ALTERNATIVE TO REPLACE BILLY OTHERWISE THE BOY HAS NOW COME OF AGE.
