Arrows shoot to summit as Warriors and Lumwana suffer defeats

The 2018 season of the Zambia super league finally kicked off after much anticipation from the fans and four games came alive with Lusaka, Choma and Mazabuka hosting the matches.

Red Arrows 2 – 0 New Monze Swallows

Red Arrows have taken an early lead on the log on goal difference after beating debutants New Monze Swallows 2 – 0 at Nkoloma stadium.

On paper, it should have been a routine win for the Airmen against the Monze side but a rather disjoint display by Arrows saw the two teams go into the break level at 0 – 0.

Arrows had chances through Josephat Kasusu and Samuel Ssekamatte but both strikers were wasteful shooting high when it seemed easy to score.

But the two best chances of the half fell to the minnows when Arrows new signing Bissong was beaten to a through ball by the striker but a brilliant block by the Arrows keeper on the edge of the box saved Honour Janza’s charges from embarassent.

Moments later Swallows broke on the right for the winger to smash in a low cross but the striker completely missed the ball with only the goal at his mercy.

Arrows however managed to get the break when skipper Bruce Musakanya netted from a Benedict Chepeshi assist in the 49th minute.

Kaususu then put his name on the score sheet on his debut to secure the win in the 79th minute.

Nkwazi 0 – 0 Napsa Stars

Napsa Stars made a short trip to Edwin Imboela stadium to face High flying Nkwazi in a local derby . The two teams were looking for a good start to the season and possibly take an early lead at the summit of the table with big boys out on continental duty.

Both teams teams failed to break the deadlock in ninety minutes and had to settle for a goalless draw.

Green Eagles 1 – 0 Lumwana Radiants

In Choma, Spencer Sautu scored the first goal of the 2018 super league season just after 35 minutes to help Green Eagles a narrow one nil home win over Lumwana Radiants who are yet to win a game in Choma.

Nakambala Leopards 1 – 0 Kabwe Warriors

Kabwe Warriors travelled to Mazabuka to face Nakambala Leopards who have made it clear they are title contenders this season.

Lameck Banda scored the only goal of the game to hand Coach Patrick Phiri a victory on match day one.

  1. Warriors have already started paying heavily and early for ignoring Chikwanda. What has Chikwanda really done to Kabwe Warriors FC? that he only gets roped in when the team is almost demoted, he saves it and is immediately sidelined.
