Zesco return to winning ways, Leopards lost in the forest as Zanaco edge Warriors

Zesco United returned to winning ways while Forest Rangers and Zanaco continued their good runs.

The MTN/FAZ Super League week 21 action continued on Sunday with three games taking place around the country.

Zesco United traveled to Mufulira to face relegation-threatened Mighty Mufulira Wanderers, Zanaco welcomed Kabwe Warriors while Forest Rangers squared off with Nakambala Leopards in Mazabuka.

Zesco United was looking for only their second win in all competitions in eleven matches. Kenyan talisman John Mark Makwatta started to make his debut for the defending Champions.

Mufulira Wanderers, on the other hand, was looking for just their third win of the season. After a goalless 85 minutes, Zesco United opened the scores in the 87th minute through Winston Kalengo before Makwatta could mark his debut with a goal two minutes to seal maximum points.

In Mazabuka, The match almost never took place after a heavy downpour but somehow the match managed to take place.

The match was full of controversy after Fole Malembe was denied two goals by referee Mathews Hamalila. Tennant Chilumba was sent off by Hamalila after he protested the decision to disallow Malembe’s second goal using bad language.

Forest Rangers, however, netted three goals in twelve minutes to secure maximum points. Zikiru Adams scored a brace while Quadri Kola netted the opener.

Red Arrows on loan forward to Nakambala Lubinda Mundia scored a consolation goal for the sweet Boys in the 84th minute, 3-1 the match ended.

The win takes Fole Malembe to 3rd place with 39, One adrift of log leaders Green Eagles and means Napsa Stars drop to fifth place.

In Lusaka, Sensational Zanaco continued their good run under Chris Kaunda as they beat Kabwe Warriors 3-2 at Sunset Stadium.

Lassa Kiala put the Bankers in the lead in the 6th minute before Jimmy Ndhlovu could level matters in the 24th minute with a ferocious long-range shot.

Belchnace Makiese put Zanaco back in the lead shortly after the start of the second half but Ali Sadiki leveled matters.

Zanaco needed a late penalty from Roger Kola to secure maximum points. Kabwe Warriors were not impressed with the decision and some of the fans wanted to confront referee Audrick Nkole after the end of the match but the Police quickly deescalated the situation.

The win takes Zanaco to 11th place on the log with 25 points.
