The 2020/21 FAZ Women’s Super League entered week 11 of action on Wednesday with five intriguing fixtures played across the country with great comebacks and disappointments coupled with a remarkable 15 goals in all 5 games, one of the highest-scoring match days so far.
At NASDEC, Lusaka Dynamos Ladies FC suffered their second successive defeat after they went down 2-1 at the hands of ZESCO Ndola Girls who came from behind with two quick goals in a space of 3 minutes at the death.
The Elite Ladies were going into this match coming from a disappointing 4-1 loss at the hands of YASA Queens and they looked like a team that was going to redeem itself when Grace ‘Njonginjo’ Tembo opened the scores in the 17th-minute mark and that lead lasted for almost the entire match until the 89th minute when Fridah Kabwe benefited from a Penelope Mulubwa’s corner to equalize for Zegalicious.
2 minutes later, ZESCO’s speedy winger Thandiwe Ndhlovu utilized on a defensive lapse in the Elite area when she found herself in free acres of space from a Melody Kipimpi’s free-kick and eventually one-on-one with Esther Chitete Munsaka in goal for Dynamos who had two minds and by the time she was about to make a decision the speedy Ndhlovu lobbed the ball past Munsaka in an empty net to send Zegalicious in wild celebrations as that was the match-winning goal as the game ended 2-1 in favor of ZESCO Ndola Girls who picked up their first victory in Lusaka from their 3 visits to go top of the log standings on 18 points from 9 games played.
Elsewhere in Solwezi, Police Dove Queens also came from behind to inflict a 2-1 painful defeat at Queens Academy Girls at Soltech Ground in a game that was delayed to kick-off by 2 hours.
Well, Queen’s goal poacher Agnes Phiri opened the scores before the Doves prolific striker Enelesi Phiri equalized to make it 1-1 going at the break.
After resumption, Rita Mwila had other ideas as she scored the winning goal for the Fearless Girls who picked up a maximum of 3 points after a hard-fought 2-1 victory at home.
At Lusaka’s Independence Stadium, YASA Queens has continued with their impressive winning form with yet another back-to-back victory with a 3-0 win over Zambian Institute for Sustainable Development (ZISD) Women Football.
YASA’s Patricia Lampi scored a goal in each half to complete her brace while Elizabeth Chishimba, A former Ntindi Shinning Stars player who was a second-half Substitute contributed with another goal benefiting from a mistake by the ZISD goalkeeper Esther Tembo who had a very bad day at the office as final scores were 3-0 in favor of Stubborn YASA who seem to have found a winning formula this time around.
Still in Lusaka, BUSA Queens also made it two wins out of two games after yet another excellent performance as they got the better of Nkwazi Queens 4-2 at the New Margaret Mwanakatwe Bauleni Stadium.
BUSA’s speedy winger Salome Phiri scored a brace while Elizabeth Lubasha and Jackeline Nambeya had a goal each while Dorothy Daka and Gift Mkandawire (who opened her scoring account for high flying Nkwazi) were on the scoresheet for the Coach Patrick Tembo drilled lasses who have suffered back-to-back defeats ahead of another tricky home game against Indeni Roses this weekend.
Meanwhile, in Ndola, draw specialists National Assembly held Indeni Roses to a goalless draw at Indeni Sports Complex. This was the 7th draw for Assembly this season while The Roses missed an opportunity to catch up with log leaders after this disappointing draw as spoils were shared in a highly contested match.
