Zesco MD powers Cosafa welcome for Zesco Ndola Girls

Zesco Ndola Girls were given a rousing welcome after emerging runners up at the CAF Women’s Champions League | COSAFA Qualifiers in Johannesburg on Saturday.

The Zambian Eden University Women Super League champions lost 4-3 on penalties to Gaborone United Ladies after the game ended 1-1 in regulation time.

Zesco Managing Director Engineer Justin Loongo and FAZ Women Representative Colonel Priscilla Katoba led the welcome party as the team arrived aboard a Zambia Airways flight.

A sizeable welcoming party comprising Zesco Limited top brass and club management teamed up with some supporters to give the team a warm welcome.

After the welcome party at the airport, the team was treated to a luncheon at the upmarket Ciela Resort.
In his address Loongo said the team would be rewarded for their feat at the Cosafa just as they had been compensated for winning the league.

“When the team won the league, I think there are witnesses there was an incentive for winning the league, they got a bonus for doing that. So for us this is a big achievement, it is an achievement which cannot go unnoticed. So be assured we are going to recognize this achievement,” he said.

And Katoba said the success by Zesco Ndola Girls was a testament that the Zambian women game had grown.
She said that Zesco Ndola Girls had done the country proud on their debut appearance at the Cosafa tournament.
Meanwhile Zesco United Chief Executive Officer Ponga Liwewe said the girls had not just made the management proud but the entire country.

Zesco Ndola Girls’ Eneles Phiri was named Player of the Tournament.
