Zesco Coach: We have chance to play in ABSA Cup

Zesco United coach Numba Mumamba has said his team ‘still has chance to play in the ABSA Cup.’

And the 9 times Zambian Champions will face struggling Lusaka Dynamos at Woodlands Stadium on Wednesday.

The soft spoken coach is also not happy with the team’s poor form and labeled into ‘below expectation.’

“Our form has been below our expectation as a team. This is what we are worried about. A team like ours can’t be dropping points in this way,” the former Zanaco coach said.

Zega Mambo have only won once in their last five matches.

On Sunday, their deep in form continued after they lost 2-1 to Mwenya Chipepo’s Power Dynamos.

“We conceded two goals today due to a luck in concentration. We could have prevented the two goals, but a lack of concentration landed us in trouble. The application of everyone was fine,” the former Chipolopolo winger said.

With qualification for the ABSA Cup determined after Week 17 matches, Numba is optimistic that six times ABSA Cup winners will have the chance to reach another final.

Zesco United were beaten in the final by Lusaka Dynamos last season.

Having played 11, with 2 games in hand, and on 18 points, the Ndola side is expected to make the cut.

“We can rewrite our script before we reach the halfway mark of the season. We still have a chance to play in the Absa Cup competition provided we win the upcoming fixtures,” Mumamba said.

Zesco United has been the most successful side in the league, winning four of the last five league titles.
