Zesco beat Zanaco to go 5 points clear

Champions Zesco United will end reach the midway mark of the season five points clear at the top after they picked a vital 1 – 0 win away at title contenders Zanaco.

In a highly anticipated contest at the top of the log, Zesco were quick off the blocks and were ahead as early as the 4th minute through a Jackson Mwanza goal.

Despite unleashing Nigerian striker Utibe Archibong and former international Isaac Chansa on the day, George Lwandamina’s side proved to be the better side and held on to the early lead to end the first half of the season on 35 points.

Zesco have now picked five wins in a roll but they will be much happier that two of those have been in away games against major title contenders Power Dynamos and Zanaco.

Power Dynamos are in second place on 30 points while Zanaco remain in third position on 29 points.

The three teams ended the 2014 season in similar positions.

  1. Have Zesco improved as a team from last season? Do they look like they are better equipped to challenge the big boys in the Champions League? Or are they just too good for the local league but crumble when it comes to CL matches? Would be nice to know.

  2. zesco has to bring back fighton simukonda or wedson nyirenda to take them to the group stage of caf champions ligue not this usles lwandamina, he has also started 2 put ayo oluafemi, sakuwaha, justin zulu on bench, these are the players who can play in caf games.

  3. it dosent mean that zesco is a strong side or lwandamina is a gud coach in our ligue, but our ligue is weak!!!! u wil proof in caf champions ligue the wil be booted out by minows. mark my words in red.

  6. In every game i’ve seen of
Green Buffaloes they have been very poor. Their performances have been substandard. In general i’d say they dont have the players to be in the position they hold right now. I wont go so far as to say they have been buying games (oops, i’ve said the words) but them being in that position when teams that have played better (Nkwazi and Muflira Wonderers are below leaves me with a lot of suspicion.
