Zambia U-20 Girls Chase World Cup Dream in Crucial Uganda Away Tie

Lusaka – Zambia’s Under-20 Girls’ National Team have departed for Uganda ahead of a decisive third-round qualifier for the Poland 2026 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup.

The Junior Copper Queens left the country in the early hours of Thursday morning, boarding an Ethiopian Airlines flight at 02:40 from Kenneth Kaunda International Airport bound for Kampala.

Head coach Florence Mwila has travelled with a strong squad as Zambia look to gain an advantage in the two-legged tie. Key players including Mwila Mufunte, Margaret Gondwe, Saliya Mwanza, Lweendo Hanongo, Jessy Zulu and Blessings Zangose Zulu have all made the cut for the crucial away fixture.

Zambia head into the encounter confident but cautious, fully aware that securing a positive result on the road could prove pivotal against the East Africans.

The Copper Queens will face Uganda on Saturday, 7 February, with the hosts expected to pose a stern test in front of their home supporters as both sides chase a place in the final round of qualification.

With progression at stake, Zambia will be aiming to combine discipline and attacking intent in Kampala, knowing that a strong performance away from home could put them firmly in control ahead of the return leg.
