The Zambia Under-15 National Team has been invited for a Four Nation Under-16 tournament to be hosted by Georgia, The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has confirmed.
Zambia will join Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan and Georgia on a tournament that is part of the UEFA Assist partnership with the FAZ.
The tournament will run from May 10-16 in Georgia.
FAZ General Secretary Adrian Kashala who confirmed the development to FAZ media says the tournament will be important as it will give the under-15 team an opportunity to compete with top clubs.
“We are grateful to UEFA for the invitation for the U1-6 tournament and will ensure that we honour the invitation by sending a team representative of Zambian talent,” Kashala said.
“In 2020 we were part of the Vlatko Markovic Invitational Tournament in Croatia where we sent our U-15 team. This is a great opportunity that also ties with our strong grassroots and youth football program.”
“The FAZ Technical Directorate is on the ground with the provincial offices and leadership to ensure that talent from across the country is not missed out. A team of technical experts is combing through the provinces to identify junior players that will be part of the final check-up in Lusaka.”
In 2020 the Zambia Under-15 National Team were invited to a “Vlatko Markovic” Croatia Invitational tournament from which they impressed.
U-17 skipper Joseph ‘Sabobo’ Banda won the Golden Boot at the tournament after scoring three goals.

Sabobo as he is fondly known played only in two games while the rest of his competitors played four games.
Zambia commenced its campaign with a 2-1 win over Bosnia& Herzegovinabefore losing to Romania by a similar scoreline.
Zambia finished fourth but could however not play their third and fourth play-off against Qatar as two Zambian players tested positive for the coronavirus.
