Zambia storm COSAFA Championship final 

The Zambia National Team came from a goal down to beat rivals South Africa 2-1 in the semi-final of the ongoing COSAFA Championship in Durban.

Tshegofatso Mabasa put Bafana Bafana in the lead in the 44th minute to send the hosts to the break on a high note. 

The defending Champions however came back from the break with a more determined mentality and needed just five minutes to draw level. 

Green Buffaloes winger Golden Mashata with a fine finish inside the box to level matters. 

The goal gave the Moses Sichone coached side a boost and they started to look dangerous. 

Zambia finally took the lead in the 69th minute, Kelvin Mubanga Kampamba was brought down just outside the box, Albert Kangwanda stepped up and made no mistake with a fine free kick to make it 2-1. 

The goal meant Kangwanda has now scored three goals at the tournament so far and two of them have been game winning goals. 

South Africa pushed for an equaliser and came close several times but Francis Mwansa who took over the place between the sticks from the unwell Lawrence Mulenga made some brilliant saves to maintain the lead. 

Zambia will face Lesotho in the final on Sunday at the King Zwelithini Stadium while South Africa and Malawi will face off in a third and fourth place play off. 

The Likuena beat Malawi 3-0 on post match penalties after a 1-1 draw to book a place in the final. 

Zambia will be looking to win an unprecedented seventh COSAFA Championship title.

  1. We shall win this one but the important thing is qualification for CHAN when we beat Lesotho…
    We have to go to the CHAN tournament to win it coz this squad deserves to be put together. There is potential more particularly with WORLD CUP QULIFIERS around the corner.

  2. Well played boys. Having watched the previous two matches, the boys showed hunger for goals in this game. Zambia is on the right trajectory. Keep pushing boys, we are behind you always. Lesotho is no push over. We need to win on Sunday and defend the COSAFA cup. Congrats boys
