The COSAFA Executive Committee had handed out stiff punishment to Zambia for the infamous age cheating saga at the Cosafa U17 championship staged in Mauritius in July.
According to a statement released by Cosafa, the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has been banned from competing in COSAFA Youth tournaments for the next two years, from August 2016, though the sanction was suspended for a period of two years.
‘It stems from the fact that Zambia fielded two over-age players at the recent COSAFA Under-17 Championships in Mauritius,’ the statement said.
The players concerned, Benjamin Phiri and Nicholas Mulilo, have been banned from competing in all COSAFA competitions for a period of two years.
The bans have also been extended to coach Osward Mutapa and team manager Collins Phiri.
FAZ have also received a fine of US$5,000, payable by October 15, 2016. Should FAZ not pay the fine they will remain suspended from all COSAFA comeptitions until the amount is paid.
The West African disease has caught up on us. We cannot say again that we are clean. Shame on us.

What reason will faz give? That we were wrong on their ages? That we mistakenly gave a wrong birth date? Let us stop the nonsense & set our house in order. Just follow the rules of the game. No age cheating. Period. No appeal is necessary
Very academic indeed, COSAFA may not even hold any tournaments in these 2 years, and its a suspended sentence for that matter. Its just the shame that goes with it that you as a Zambian can’t hide from.
Cheating even at COSAFA sure? Maybe we even cheat at Senior National Team Level. How old was Kalusha when he played and missed the penalty against Angola in the Lusaka COSAFA final?

Some arguments awe sure Kalu missed that spot kick in a senior cosafa game in which we would have also fielded Mr Fred Mwila as long as he is match fit hence some points are baseless to say the least
