Zambia 1 – 2 Nigeria U23: Match Reactions

Fighton Simukonda – Zambia U23 coach:

“I don’t like excuses. Today we have just lost. We created three or four chances in the first half but we couldn’t take them.”

“We made silly mistakes and our opponents made use of their chances.

“Our strategy was to score early in order to unsettle the Nigerians with specific instructions to our backline not to allow any goal. But they allowed those two goals. That’s how we lost.

“I am not denying that Nigeria played well but we were on top of them. It is very painful the way we lost because we created a lot of chances.”

“This is the best team we have. We will keep the team for future engagements.

“We cannot start blaming players now as that would not lead us anywhere.

“As a coach I can not pass the blame on to the players. It was not the players intention to concede those two goals.

“Our football in Zambia is not going down. Its just that we are going through bad times.”

Samson Siasia – Nigeria U23 coach

“We are happy we have qualified to the AAG after a long time. We utilised the two chances we had at the gooal.”

“Zambia mostly played long balls that never reached the destination. My boys played well and our strategy worked well.”

  1. “Our football in Zambia is not going down. Its just that we are going through bad times:

This is most foolish statement from a visionless coach. What bad times, did he mean the economy? Sir, just go to Kalu and tell him sir we are doomed our days are numbered!

    • Loooooooooool!!.. THE ONLY WAY THE CHIPOS CAN DO UTILISING ZAMBIAN FOOTBALL FROM THE CHIPOS TO A GOOD COACH IS CALLING ALL FOOTBALL PRESIDENTS IN A COMMITEE TO SEE WHO IS NOT DOING HIS WORK GOOD OR DOING BAD..

IT IS BAD A FOOTBALL PRESIDENT LIVES IN ANOTHER COUNTRY AND BEING THE HEAD OF A FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION IN ANOTHER COUNTRY..
ETHICALLY, THIS WILL NOT BE AKNOWLEDGES IN ANY COUNTRY..

  2. congratulations to Nigeria, for me it was not a painful loss because I don’t remember the last time we won against Nigeria. they deserved to win. moreover, the management of our football is very pathetic. only Mwanawasa could have managed normalize the situation like he did when Kalu was staying in a hotel. it was the late president who boldly ordered that Kalu should be removed from the hotel. there is something serious wrong with our football. Nigeria deserved to win period

  3. am still wondering why simukonda had to sub ngoma a striker wen it was evident that our right back was our weak link and naija utilised that weak point?

    • All the 2 goals came from the same side, when Patric changed to left wing he started putting pressure on Nigeria, but the coach decided to substitute him, he was not the missing link!

    • Going forward. Ideas for improvement. Enough of just the criticism without solution . FOOTBALL DEVELOPMENT IN ZAMBIA AS A WHOLE & not the single game lost sadly.

  4. In as much as it is very painful to Lose especially at home, i expected our Zambian football website to come up with a detailed analysis on this game.Whether it is individual players who failed or the tactics/system employed in the game that failed, standout players or players for the future, weaknesses, strength in the team.We need these detailed nitty-gritty aspects if the game not only when we win.

  5. we are rubbish and anyone can challenge me and I will come up with facts. Kalusha ad his idiots of bootlickers that have been joined Edgar Lungu are a big problem in Zambian football and let us face facts we will never ever go anywhere, maybe in 50 years as at that time changes would be unavoidable

      • JUSTICALLY,, ZAMBIAN FOOTBALL PROBLEMS IS NOT THE PLAYERS..THERE MUST BE A GREAT MEETING BETWEEN FAZ AND THE CHIPOS TO GET THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE PLAYERS AND THE COACH HOW THEY FEEL AND QUESTIONS TO THE FAZ HEADS IN A COMMITEE SET BY THE GOVERNMENT..MAY BE THE CHIPOS AND THE COACH HAVE SOME QUESTIONS TO BE ANSWERD BY THE TOP OF THE LADDER-FAZ-

    • Come up with the facts, please. U don’t need to be challenged b4 u state the facts. Also come up with suggested solution(s), please.

  6. No surprise here, this is symptomatic of the state of Zambian football today. While we are busy congratulating each other on winning elections unopposed, we have neglected the core reason of why we are in office and that is football on the pitch!

  7. My beloved country will be there to defend the title it won 4years ago. Go black meteors. Go Ghana. Congrat to our over hyped neighbours for living up to the hype to keep the Southerners mouth zipped.

  8. Since Herve Renard left, Zambian football has gone down. Therefore,Kalu should organize a foreign coach to inspire our local coaches and players.Otherwise, we will not go anywhere with especially Janza.

  9. Since Herve Renard left, Zambian football has gone down. Therefore,Kalu should organize a foreign coach to inspire our local coaches and players.Otherwise, we will not go anywhere with them especially Janza.

  10. I doubt hiring a foreign coach will fix the real issues that we have in our football today. That is like the proverbial band-aid on a bleeding wound adage. We need to get to the core of why we keep under-performing at all age groups. A few years have a decade or so ago, we seemed to be on the right track but now, it seems everything is in free fall. personally think going to the Africa cup should not even be our priority. Developing our leagues and youth football coupled with a more professional approach to administration is what we need to focus on right now.

  11. Brother Logic, u are damn right. It all starts with the local league & a solid youth programme. The admin should be cognizant of this simple fact & make amends where lacking. Can’t build a strong house without an unshakeable foundation.

  12. Ati….with specific instructions to our backline not to allow any goal. But they allowed those two goals. & Wat were nigeria’s spefic instructions to strikers? Not to score b’coz they are playing Zambia?

  13. Despite all the shit we have seen and experienced in zambian football, some people still think Kalu is a good football administrator. U17,U20,U23,clubs,girls,women and the senior team, all have failed. Ghanians please continue loughing at this comedy country that will always support failures. Atleast you Ghanians have administrators who know what Ghanians want in football. This shit in Zambia has become part of our culture. Oh God punish this country which is ful of people who can’t learn,AMEN.

  14. The southern African minnows has been eliminated again! Lol

Whiles west coast Africa players are dead serious about WINNING BONUSES and ll die to have it, minnows like Zambia are playing the game as a hobby!!

Football not be dem game… Lol

    Maybe RUGBY… HAHA

  15. How can an OFUI BR LIKE A HORSE? LOL

Even some better horses are FARTING LEFT ALONE OFUI LOL!!!

How can players who are trained as policeman, soldiers, farms etc compete with players who sole livelihood is football!!

    Lol

  16. Zambia can’t beat Nigeria at any level. We have failed. I didn’t expect this useless bunch to change anything. With toaster in goal.

  17. List for AAG in Congo: Only Zimbabwe representing COSAFA. 4 nations from west Africa, 2 from the north & Congo on central Africa.
    FULL LIST:
    Ghana Nigeria Burkina Senegal (west);
    Sudan Egypt (north)
    Congo (Central)
    Zimbabwe (south)

  18. Th olympic Games qualifiers ar starting in August/September, our best U23 striker evans Kangwa will b available, Simukonda should b kept as Coach so that he maintains th team n help t to gel togthr. Faz is to blame fo this early exit. Our U23 nvr playd any preparatory matches.

  19. We are just useless and not only useless but very, very useless. National Teams at all levels and Clubs all clobbered, and yet we still want to have hope. On what bases really?? fantasy world

  20. @rascozy, if nigeria is over-hyped, then Ghana is what? A team with Olympics gold and silver medals is over-hyped ? A country with 3 AFCON titles is over-hyped? A team with 4 world titles at the u-17 level is over-hyped? A country with 7 AYC titles us over-hyped? A country with 8 AWC titles is over-hyped? Do you even realize that nigeria is the only country in Africa that is dominant in every type and level of football in Africa ? You will surely die of jealousy. You mock Zambians and Zambian football as if u have the monopoly of the game on the continent. Man, clean up; you smell.

    • Papafem: rad cozy is not implying Nigeria is “overhyped “. Nigeria is an African giant in all aspects. Poor admin is what is frustrating the snr team.
Rascozy was referring to comments by Zamfoot when ZAMBIA drew 0-0 in Abuja. Most commentators here said ZAMBIA has had a draw with the overhyped Nigerians. Read between the lines & u will see that rascozy was being sarcastic. “Thank overhyped Nigeria for LIVING TO THE HYPE………..

  21. @papafem:
Rascozy is not jealous. Why brand him that way. You failed to understand what he meant & started attacking him. You better upgrade your understanding of the Queens language to grasp what people write here. If is clear that you are jealous of Ghana & not the other way. Be level headed. Does Nigeria hold monopoly over african football after all its achievements? NO. No African country can monopolize this game? Nigeria is a giant but does not hold monopoly over the game even with the record you posted. COULD NOT EVEN QUALIFY after winning the trophy the previous year. Is that monopoly?definitely no.
The game is fast developed & there are indeed no minnows in the real sense these days. It not easy to beat countries like Mauritius(regarded as NOT a football nation)

  22. Thanks my dear @Ghana paradox. I went through the message again. I actually overeacted . Special apology to @radcozy. @Abiola babies, thanks for your flaks too. God bless Africa.

  23. @PAPAFEM

Apology well received. However i dont think any Ghanaian will be jealous of Nigeria when it comes to football on the continent and at the world stage even though i do admit that Nigeria is a power house when it comes to football.
On a lighter note you almost caused me to break up with my Naija girl friend(Abiola Folami)

    • Hahahaha! Keep that girl boy. Yoruba girls are well-cultured, well-mannered and great man managers. Hope she’s proving all these to you. One love!
