Zamalek beat Zesco United 1-0 in Cairo in a CAF Confederations Cup Group D match on Sunday.
Algerian striker Seifeddine Jaziri’s 42nd goal was enough to give the white knights the victory.
After the break the Zambian side pushed for an equaliser but could not break a resolute Zamalek defence.
Winger Pascal Phiri and Peter Musukuma were brought on for Abraham Siankombo and Solomon Sakala and injected energy in attack.
Striker Amine Hiver and Ifoni Oghenemarho also came on for Lindo Mkhonta and Freddy Michael.
Attention will now shift to this Friday’s clash against another Egyptian side Al Masry at Ndola’s Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
Al Masry beat Kaizer Chiefs 2-1 in the other Group D match.
With Zesco United hosting Al Masry, Zamalek will head down south to face Amakhosi.
