Young Copper Queens suffer defeat on penalties in opener of UEFA tournament

The Zambia U18 Women’s National Team put up a spirited performance but fell short in a 5-4 penalty shootout defeat to Colombia after a goalless draw in regulation time at the UEFA Women’s U18 Friendship Cup in Turkey.

Despite creating several scoring opportunities, the Young Copper Queens were unable to break the deadlock against the South Americans.

As per tournament regulations, the match proceeded to penalties, where Zambia narrowly missed out.

The team will now shift focus to their second Group A encounter against Turkey on April 3, as they continue their journey in the UEFA developmental tournament.

The UEFA Friendship Cup serves as an important platform for young talents to gain international exposure and experience against some of the world’s emerging football nations.

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has embraced partnerships with continental bodies such as UEFA as part of its broader strategy to nurture and develop future stars for various nations.
