WSL: Zanaco edge nine Woman Elite, BUSA beat YASA as assembly draw again

By Moses Pedro Mwanza

BUSA Queens and Zanaco Ladies clinched wins while National Assembly recorded another draw as week 19 came alive.

At Margaret Mwanakatwe ground, BUSA Queens have continued with their impressive run in the second round of the 2022/23 FAZ Women’s Super Division with the aim of moving out of the relegation zone.

The Bauleni based outfit cruised to a well deserved 2-nil victory over not-so stubborn YASA Queens in a Week 19 encounter played this afternoon at Margaret Mwanakatwe Bauleni Stadium in Lusaka.

BUSA went into this game on the back of a goalless draw with National Assembly while YASA lost 3-1 to Trident Queens so expectations were very high from both teams.

Margaret Chisenga who is on loan from Green Buffaloes put BUSA in the lead at the half hour mark with a brilliant free kick which ended in the top right corner leaving Edith Zimba with no chance in goal for YASA and that was the difference at the break.

Immediately after resumption, another loanee from Buffaloes Lucy Kajiya who had a good debut pounced on a loose ball before setting up a square pass to Cleopattra Bwalya who slotted past Edith Zimba to make it 2-nil to BUSA in the 46th minute.

YASA fought hard to come back in the game but BUSA held on to ensure they avenged their 2-nil loss away to YASA in the first round.

Elsewhere in the Arcades Derby, ZANACO Ladies were too Sensational for The Elite Ladies with a hard fought 2-1 victory in a match played at Sunset Stadium.

Sarah Jere put ZANACO in the lead in the 24th minute before League top goalscorer Xiomara Mapepa leveled the scores 6 minutes later and that was enough for the opening half.

Tisilile Lungu scored the second goal for ZANACO in the 52nd minute to ensure a Sensational victory for the Bankers with a 2-1 scoreline over a 9-woman Elite after Xiomara Mapepa and Pauline Sepiso Chisomo Zulu were sent off by Referee Serah Selemani.

Meanwhile, in an earlier kick-off match, Green Eagles and National Assembly shared spoils in a match played at Crested academy Academy Ground.

Assembly scored first through Gladys Shakalupa before Joyce Sikaobongo, fondly known as Yapa, equalized for Eagles converting from the penalty spot.
