WSL: The three way race for the Golden boot

With only 3 games before the end of the 2022/23 FAZ Women’s Super League Season, The Golden Boot Race is so tight among the three top players in Women’s Football.

Green Buffaloes’ Maylan Mulenga scored a brace on Thursday afternoon to guide the defending Champions to a 2-0 win and move to within 4 goals of the leading goal scorer.

Xiomara Mapepa who was last season’s top goal scorer is on 25 goals for The Elite Ladies at the summit looking to reclaim her accolade.

It will be interesting to see how many more goals Skamale as she is fondly known  will score in the remaining games against Prison Leopards, ZESCO Ndola Girls and Nkwazi Queens

Second on the list is Copper Queens forward Ochumba Oseke Lubanje of Red Arrows with 24 goals in this campaign.

Ochumba has to rise to the occasion in the upcoming games against Mufulira Wanderers, Trident Queens and BUSA Queens if she’s to emerge as the leading goal scorer this season for the title contenders who have everything to play for in the remaining games.

Third is the surprise package, Maylan Mulenga of Green Buffaloes who actually played the first part of the season as a full back and was pushed forward after departure of Hellen Chanda late last year and she has not disappointed as she has managed to find the back of the net 21 times.

Maylan needs to negotiate her way past ZESCO Ndola Girls, Prison Leopards, Nkwazi and Queens Academy if she is to overcome stiff competition from Xiomara and Ochumba.

With the World Cup just about three months away the competition is welcome for Copper Queens gaffer Bruce Mwape who will need all his guns firing from cylinders at the World stage.
