WSL: Derbies headline week 12 as Indeni welcome ZESCO, Rangers battle Blades…Elite Ladies in Buffaloes test

The ZPL Women’s Super League enters week 12 of action this afternoon with exciting matches taking place across the country, derbies taking centre stage, the Ndola derby comes alive as Indeni Roses welcome ZESCO Ndola Girls while in Chingola it’s the Mopani derby as Nchanga Rangers Queens play host to Konkola Blades Queens.

The drama and excitement of the Women’s Super League will again captivate the fans as the men’s Super League is on a break due to the FIFA International window.

At Edwin Imboela Stadium, Green Eagles returned to winning ways last weekend as they saw off Chipata Girls 2-0 after losing back to back games.

They welcome a Nkwazi Queens side that is winless in their last seven games. The Zambia Police sponsored outfit last picked up maximum points in week 3, a 1-0 win over Nchanga Rangers Queens.

Coach Albert Mphande will bank on the likes of Cindy Banda, goalkeeper Loveness Tonge, Theresa Chewe and Rachel Moono to get him maximum points.

At David Kaunda, Winless Chipata Girls welcome Kamfinsa Police Blue Eagles as they desperately need a win.

Chipata Girls sit bottom of the table with just three points after playing eight games so far this season.

Kamfinsa on the other hand want to bounce back to winning ways after they suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of ZANACO last weekend.

In Chingola, the Mopani derby comes alive as Nchanga Rangers Queens welcome Konkola Blades Queens at Nchanga Stadium.

The hosts have had a poor start to the campaign and are searching for only their fourth win of the season.

On the other hand, Coach Enala Simbeye Phiri is having a brilliant campaign so far at the helm of Konkola Blades Queens and have only lost to the traditional big teams in the Women’s Super League, Red Arrows, four time Champions, Green Buffaloes and the defending Champions, ZESCO Ndola Girls.

They have won 5 games and drawn a further 3 games and sit comfortably in seventh place on the log despite this being their first season in the topflight.

With Chisomo Banda getting the goals and Towera Nkhata orchestrating things in midfield, Nchanga Rangers Queens will have to up their game to match one of the most promising sides in the Women’s Super League this season.

Despite the big names like Lungowe Namasiku, Tricia Mabamba, Gracious Tailoshi and Blessings Mapalo Maluba, it has not yet clicked for coach Charity Nthala.

Maybe they are just missing the service of their goal machine Ivy Nambeye who is still our nursing an injury.

However this being a derby, current form may not play a big part as both teams know that a lot more than three points is at stake.

At Indeni Sports Complex, the Ndola derby comes alive as Indeni Roses welcome defending Champions, ZESCO Ndola Girls.

Indeni are third on the log with 23 points while ZESCO Ndola Girls sit second on the table with 27 points just two adrift of log leaders, Green Buffaloes Women’s Football Club.

Indeni Roses have lost two games and drawn two winning the remaining seven while ZESCO Ndola Girls have just lost once this season.

Avell Chitundu who leads the Golden boot race with nine goals this season will captain Zegalicious Girls who look to keep up the pace with log leaders Green Buffaloes.

The menace Eneless Phiri will be key with her pace and trickery while Indeni will bank on Ngosa Chabwe who scored a hat-trick last weekend against Red Arrows Women and Edith Phiri who will be a handful on the wings.

It is expected to produce fireworks with coach William Zulu keen to get a win over the Smart Roses.

At Reiz Arena, Green Buffaloes Women’s Football Club will be looking to maintain their dominance over Elite Ladies, a team that is yet to beat them.

The Amazing Evarine Susan Katongo is expected to pull the strings in the middle of the park alongside Maweta Chilenga and Natasha Nanyangwe.

Elite Ladies will look to Blessings Naomi Moonga, Saliya Mwanza and Phidah Muzuwa for the goals.

With Young  Elite Ladies also in action against Pataaki Girls, it’s a double header at Reiz Arena and charges are just K10 Open wing and K50 VIP.

The action continues tomorrow, Luyando Foundation Girls welcome Red Arrows at Independence Stadium.

Both teams are coming from huge defeats as Luyando were handed a 5-0 thrashing by Green Buffaloes while Arrows suffered a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Indeni Roses.

Elsewhere, Amazing Grace welcome National Assembly while YASA Queens play host to ZISD.

ZISD Women recorded their first win of the season last weekend beating Nkwazi Queens 3-1 and will be eager to make two wins in a row.

YASA Queens on the other hand will hope to put their humiliating 7-0 loss at the hands of defending Champions, ZESCO Ndola Girls behind them and return to winning ways.

At Sunset Stadium, Regina Chanda will be looking to continue her fine form as ZANACO Ladies welcome Trident Queens.

The Bankers have won their last three games and will be aiming to continue that run. Meanwhile Trident Queens are unbeaten in their last five games with a three wins and two draws.
