Nkana Queens 1-2 YASA Queens (Charity Mubanga 83′ | Harriet Matipa 52′, Christine Nyirongo 90+2′)
Nkana Queens this afternoon failed to utilize their home ground advantage after they went down 2-1 to visitors YASA Queens in a FAZ Women’s Super League match week 25 played at Nkana Annex Ground in Kitwe.
Both Nkana and YASA were going into this match with heads high trying to redeem themselves after last weekend’s defeats to Green Buffaloes and Zambian Institute for Sustainable Development (ZISD) via a 5-0 and 1-0 scoreline respectively.
After a barren first half, both teams came back more rejuvenated in the second half and it was YASA who had a first big chance as they thought they had scored through Florence Kasonde just after the restart as the referee pointed to the center circle signaling a goal given but after consultation with the assistant referee the decision was overturned and instead given as free-kick to Nkana Queens as there was an infringement on the goalkeeper Blessings Mwika.
A few minutes later, Harriet Matipa scored for YASA in the 52nd minute after great build-up play to make it 1-0 in favor of the visitors.
Immediately they conceded, Nkana started piling pressure on YASA in search of an equalizing goal, and that finally paid off as Charity Mubanga equalized for Nkana in the 83rd minute benefiting from a defensive mistake from YASA to make it 1-1.
Just when everyone thought spoils would be shared as the 90 minutes elapsed, Christine Nyirongo broke Nkana’s hearts as she scored the winning goal for the Stubborn YASA Queens at the death in the first of the 2 added minutes of stoppage time to seal an important 2-1 victory for the Coach Tafara Phiri drilled lasses.
Nkana’s next assignment is a home game against soon-to-be-crowned champions Green Buffaloes before they travel to Ndola to face ZESCO Ndola Girls in the last league match while YASA will host Buffaloes at home to wrap up the Inaugural Women’s Super League.
YASA now has 37 points on the 6th position from 25 games while Nkana is rocked bottom of the table with only 6 points from 24 games played.
