The Inaugural FAZ Women’s national league finally kicked off on Saturday, 20th March with six mouth-watering encounters being played around the country.
Favorites Green Buffaloes, Indeni Roses, and Red Arrows all recorded convincing wins to kick off their campaign on a good note. Green Buffaloes left it late to beat a determined Zesco United Ladies side 2-0 thanks to goals from Theresa Chewe and Ethel Chama.
In Kabwe, Red Arrows outclassed Queens Academy 4-0. Mary Wilombe, Mary Mambwe, Ochumba Oseke Lubanji, and Square Maiwase scoring a goal each.
At Bauleni Community Stadium, Indeni Roses capitalized on their opponent’s mistakes to beat a stubborn Youthful Bauleni United Sports Academy, 3-0.
Esther Namukwasa opened the scores from the penalty spot before veteran Noria Sosala could a second. Grace Kamanga sealed the result, Indeni announcing their early ambitions and sounding a warning to their opponents.
At Showgrounds in Lusaka, National Assembly and ZISD played out to a 1-1 draw while Mufulira Wanderers Queens edged Nkana Queens 2-1 at Shinde Stadium.
Earlier in the day, Lusaka Dynamos beat Nkwazi Queens 2-0 thanks to goals from Elizabeth Mupeso and Grace Tembo.
Police Doves and YASA Queens will conclude the matchday one fixtures when they clash tomorrow at Solwezi Independence Stadium.
FAZ Deputy General Secretary Joseph Chimpampwe attended two matches ( Nkwazi 0-2 Lusaka Dynamos and BUSA 0-3 Indeni) and awarded four players a token of appreciation, one from each team.
Other FAZ Officials who attended the two matches are Registrar, Iva Lengwe, Licencing Manager Gideon Kaumba, Lusaka Province Women’s Representative, Belinda Chisanga, and Janet Bwalya from the Women’s Football desk at football house.
