We have to prove ourselves – Prisca Chilufya

Zambia Women’s national team forward Prisca Chilufya is happy to make a return to the Copper Queens set up after a two year absence.

Chilufya was part of the Zambia Women’s national team that played in the 2020 COSAFA Women’s Championship but missed the Olympics, and WAFCON.

Chilufya who was speaking after a morning training session on Monday at Nkoloma Stadium said the team needs to prove themselves against Colombia.

“Joining the national team  for me is one of the best things because I have been waiting to rejoin the squad,” she said.

“We just have to do our best and make it to the final squad. The game against Colombia won’t be easy, we have to take it seriously and prove ourselves.”

“The morale is good though not all the players are in camp but we are giving ourselves good competition,” she added.

The Copper Queens were drawn in Group C for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup alongside Spain, Japan and Costa Chilufya believes it is a fair group.

Chilufya is back in the local league after a stint in Kazakhstan which saw her even play in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

She has hit the ground running and has already netted three goals in just two games.

“It’s a fair group though we won’t take the games lightly. All the teams are very good and there to compete so we have to work hard to come out first in the group,” she said.

“I have  only played two games so far and am yet to really catch up but so far so good,” she added.

The Copper Queens and the Las Chicas Superpoderosas will face off in two international friendly matches on November 12th and 15th in Cali.

Both teams are using the two matches as part of their preparations for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup which will be co-hosted by New Zealand and Australia.
