NAPSA Stars head coach Sipho Mumbi says the Pensioners have disappointed their fans who actually ‘deserve better’ so far this season. The Pensioners have only managed two wins in 13 matches this season losing five and drawing the remaining six matches.
Mumbi who was speaking in a pre match interview ahead of their week 14 encounter against Kabwe Warriors set for Saturday, 6th December at Reiz Arena however asked the fans to continue supporting the team and give them that extra energy that makes them believe they can do it.
“Yeah, I think to the fans, I think we have let them down. And I think they deserve better than what we have given them. But we need them again at the same time. You know, they bring that energy, that extra energy to make us believe that we can do it. So we need their support. They should continue supporting the team. That is what is important,” he said.
“The mood is very much good because we had a one-to-one chat with most of the senior players and I think they know what is at stake. This is a phase that nobody expected to be in but we are in now so we just have to get back and reboot ourselves and say there’s a good challenge, a good opportunity coming. Let’s make sure that we make use of it and try to win games.”
The Pensioners are coming from a 1-0 loss at the hands of struggling Nkana, a match Sipho Mumbi feels his side should have gotten at least a point from. Mumbi says despite how difficult the week has been they have to try and make amends by pushing for maximum points against Kabwe Warriors especially that they are at home.
He however is aware of the huge task that is on his side’s hands against the Magnificent People’s team who are coming from a win and have only lost once in their last six games.
“Yeah, another big week for us and it hasn’t been easy. Of course, we lost against Nkana Red Devils, a game which I feel and think that a draw would have been a better result. But yeah, it hasn’t been an easy week, but we have to get back and refocus again and try to make amends this week against Kabwe Warriors and try to collect maximum points as we are playing at home,” he said.
“Yeah, I think they have done very well and I think they are coming from a win. Again, the confidence levels are very high for them. But we have told the players that our focus is not on Kabwe Warriors, our focus is on us. We are going to prepare adequately and make sure that we leave no stone unturned.”
The Pensioners and the Magnificent People’s team will square off at Reiz Arena at 15h00. A win for Kabwe Warriors could see them go as high as second place depending on other results while NAPSA Stars are eager to avoid defeat as it could see them move close to the relegation zone.
