We did not play well but I am happy we qualified – Bruce Mwape

Zambia Women’s National Team on Monday qualified to the fifth round of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics Qualifiers after they beat Kenya 1-0 on the day and 3-2 on aggregate at Nkoloma Stadium.

Speaking during the post-match press conference, coach Bruce Mwape expressed happiness with the win despite not being too impressed with the performance of the team.

“The girls played better in Kenya, but I am happy with the result cause this is what we wanted, we played to go forward in the tournament and we have achieved that,” he said.

“We need to improve on the finishing part, when we played against Botswana we had lots of chances that we missed and even against Kenya we had some decent chances but we did not convert them into goals,” he added.

Zambia had three great chances in the first half with Racheal Kundananji hitting the crossbar and later missing a penalty, Racheal Nachula had a one on one chance but was let down by her first touch on the ball.

Zambia awaits the winner between the Cameroon and Cote d’ Ivoire’ second leg match which will be played later today in Yaounde, Cameroon.

The Copper Queens will be away on 13th January 2020 then host the reverse fixture on 20th January 2020 in Lusaka.
