Wada Wada: We are still in contention, the future is bright

Chipolopolo coach Wedson Nyirenda says his team is still in contention for a spot at the 2018 Russia World Cup.

Nyirenda was speaking after seeing his side held by the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon to a 1 – 1 draw in Limbe.

Wada Wada said Zambia needs to pick maximum points in the games at home and pick a win away from home.

“We are still in contention, we have two games at home which have to maximize then other games away…. One of them we have to pick a win,” Nyirenda said.

A delighted Nyirenda said the future for the Chipolopolo is bright going by the performance in Cameroon.

“If we can play like this here, the future is bright,” he said.

Collins Mbesuma’s 34th minute goal was cancelled out by a late first half penalty.

  1. Faz has the right to complain that was not a pernalty that referee was bias the linesman he did not raise his flag fifa must act.the refere need burned not to officiate any game in Africa he coasted zambia.

  2. I blame that defender. He needs to stand his ground and shield the Cameroon player. He was beaten when the Cameroon player made the cut back. Zambia defense is jittery. I don’t know why this coach is happy with such a performance. DR.Congo won away! That is the hallmark of a team brimming with confidence. Zambia need Christopher Katongo..do something about the defense! Algeria is coming. We need goal scorers. Mbesuma cannot be the only scorer. ..midfield…where is Mukuka Mulenga? Try this Walter Bwalya…

  3. My advice to coach Wedson Nyirenda:

    1. Zambia needs to stop this falling down, wasting time football tactic that has become our modus operandi in the past couple of years. There is also a clear lack of discipline and focus in this team. There was a call missed/ignored by the referee during a break away for Zambia; a Zambian player got the ball on the wing and beat his man, but was held back by the defender and the ref waved play on, the entire bench to include a standing Wada were livid. Rather than continue playing, the player stopped and started to argue with the linesman who was standing right over the incident…lack of discipline.

    2. The team lacks a leader. No one in the team seems to be able to grab a game by the horns or inspire their teammates. Most of the interactions among the players seems negative. Complaints about missed passes, no thumbs up for good thought or attempt plays.

    3. Tactically uncommitted; Zambia in the first half seemed to have a play from the back strategy, but was also peppered with long ball trial and error plays. We did not seem committed to either option. In the second half, they were plenty of counter attacking opportunities, but again the team did not commit. Players who received the ball before a counter were left to fend for themselves, no support was quick to arrive, and the players who had the ball were also impatient in that they did not hold up the ball, but instead tried to push forward alone.

Wada Wada, you need to pick your strategy and fully commit your players to it. This may just be because the team hasn’t played together long enough, but there is a need to find this teams identity. Not this fall over and waste time identity, but one that defines the team going forward.

  4. i watched the game and zambia didnt played well as they allowed the camerounian team press too much in the game, to me zambia were lucky cameroun srikers were not sharp and fast. If zambia play Algeria who has Bentaleb, Slimani and Mahrez in that manner it will be hard to resist a goal from them.. If two cauntries can qualify from each group i would love Nigeria and Zambia to qualify from this group. Their is still time to reorganize ur team, Mbesuma is getting old i dnt knw how in form he wil b next year..

  5. our team was not committed, the coach should have encouraged the players to kill off the game and finish up the lions but everyone just lacks discipline 🙁

The Nigerian team have noticed that they need to repay the faith showed by their fans during the failed Afcon qualifiers & they have delivered.

Chipolopolo on the other end are cool with whatever outcome!
