Ugly scenes in Chililabombwe as Blades’ fans attack Zanaco players

There were ugly scenes in the Zambian border town of Chililambombwe following Konkola Blades’ 1-1 draw with Zanaco at Konkola Stadium.

After the referee blew for full time, the home fans started threwing missiles at Zanaco players.

The players who needed police escort into the dressing room, stayed there for over an hour.

When the Zanaco players and officials emerged from the dressing room as they were making their into the bus, more hooligans’ resurfaced and started throw all sorts of missiles at them.

The Zanaco contigent scampered in all directions and for those who were already in the bus got a rude shock as they were meant with broken glasses from the rear windscreen.

Konkola Stadium is one of the most intimidating venues in the league

In the past two weeks, there has been a rife in hooliganism in the Zambian Super League.

Following Zanaco’s 2-1 defeat to Red Arrows on January 1, 2022, two known Zanaco supporters leaders besieged and confronted referee Micheal Lialabi on the pitch in full view of FAZ Referee Coordinator Aziph Banda.

FAZ is yet to act despite receiving both the referee and match commissioner report 3 weeks.

Last week, there were ugly scenes at both Nkoloma and Sunset Stadia but FAZ is yet to act.

Zanaco released a statement: We would like to assure the general public that all the players and members of staff who were on the bus at the time of incidence are safe and sound

At Nkoloma Stadium, the fracas shifted from the pitch to the ‘Battle of the Terraces’ after Red Arrows’ retaliated

Nkana fans provoked the situation and threw missiles on the pitch but having seen enough, Arrows fans turned on Kalampa fans, who left the stadium with 10 minutes still to play for as they run for safety.
