Zambia snatched a dramatic 1-0 victory over Tanzania in a tense TotalEnergies CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations Group A encounter on Tuesday evening thanks to a last-minute penalty to boost their chances of qualification to the quarter finals.
Joseph Sabobo Banda converted a penalty in injury time to hand Zambia a 1-0 win over Tanzania at the ongoing CAF U20 African Cup of Nations in Ismailia.
After 90 plus minutes without a breakthrough, a decisive moment arrived in the 11th minute of added time, after VAR awarded a penalty when Emmanuel Mutale was fouled in the box by Ismail Ally.
Sabobo stepped up and coolly slotted the spot kick into the bottom left corner, securing all three points for the Young Chipolopolo.
Boyd Mulwanda’s side are now third in Group A with 5 points while Sierra Leone lead the group with 7 points.
South Africa are second with six points after their 4-1 win over Sierra Leone with Egypt in fourth with 4 points.
Zambia and South Africa will battle it out in the Cosafa Derby with Egypt and Tanzania facing off in the other match.
Mulwandaโs team could finish top of the group with a win over an impressive South African side.
