Zambia Women’s U17 National Team coach Carol Kanyemba has praised the new additions to her side for the competition they have brought to the team.
Kanyemba was quick to mention that they are no personal to holder positions in the team and players have to work for them.
The Green Buffaloes Women’s Football assistant coach says the team is working on the lapses they saw on some of the positions.
“So far so good. The girls are shaping up well, the Girls are getting to know each other. This is our first week, we are looking forward to the second week. The hiccups we had were working on them. We had a few positions that we struggled with but we were working on players to take up those places,” she said.
“They are blending well, they new players have brought in a lot of competition in the team which is very good for us.”
“We just want to psych the players. We telling our players to use the talent and skill they have to counter Tanzania’s physical nature. They are not a pushover, we have met several times and gotten mixed results. So I want these girls to go in with a good mentality and attitude so that even when we meet Tanzania we give them a surprise,” she added.
Meanwhile skipper of the side Blessings Zangose Zulu says the training is going well and that everyone is pushing.
“The training is going well. Everyone is pushing and the competition is high. We need to work hard and continue pushing,” she said.
“To the fans, they just need to believe in us and continue supporting us.”
Zambia will host Tanzania on 3 February before travelling for the away fixture a week later. Winner over two legs will face Uganda or Cameroon in the third round.
Three African teams qualify for the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup to be held Dominican Republic after round four of the qualifiers.
