U16 trialists impress Chisi Mbewe

Zambia Under-15 Coach Chisi Mbewe says he is impressed with the quality of players selected from the provincial U16 trials conducted countrywide.

Mbewe, who is overseeing 55 players currently attending the nationwide trials says Zambia’s future is clear going by the investments made in grassroots football development.

“So far so good, the selection is going on well. There is a lot of talent from young boys from across the country and we are happy that we have an opportunity to pick the best for the national team,” Mbewe said.

Mbewe is not alone supervising the selection trials; former Chipolopolo stars Isaac Chansa and William Njobvu are also on hand to help get the best talents the country has to offer.

“We have engaged a few coaches to help us come up with the best team, we have got ample time to pick the best team,” Mbewe said.

“There’s massive talent in these players who have come for the national trials, we have the players and will come up with the best team from this group.”

Mbewe said the technical bench will thoroughly check the players in their quest to assemble a formidable Zambia squad that is going to participate at the UEFA Assist U16 Four Nations International Tournament to be held in Georgia next month.

“The Georgia trip is a motivation to the young future national team players because if they compete outside it will motivate them and I am sure they will even work hard to become mature professionals. For the technical bench, it’s helping us to nurture these upcoming stars.” Mbewe said.

“It’s (this selection is) important, we need to start from the lower ranks. We need to nurture them because we had neglected this stage for some time. If we start form this stage, we will have the Patson Dakas, Enock Mwepus from these young players so we really need to take care of these players at this stage.”

All the 10 provinces have representation of players at the nationwide trials following the successful completion of provincial trials held early this month.
